Is there any way to tell how old these things are?

I'm aware of the Snap-on date codes...

Sorry to bump this old thread up but I'm interested in this as well. I see on all my matco ratchets that there is some sort of date code. Does anyone have a picture of them all like the snap on one I see around so commonly? When I searched, this is the only thread that came up. If I missed it I'm sorry.

How about Craftsman date codes? I have an old craftsman extension that has no model number on it but it does say craftsman and have a date code. No one knows any of these except snap on?

they are all date coded but as far as i know there isn't any reference charts out there for them.

How about we made our own reference chart for Matco then. I have started to make one and will be happy to keep it updated if other people will contribute. I have started off with the two recent ones that I have. I also took pictures of the date codes. Hopefully we can fill this out.

The reason I put the other letters in there is because I ASSumed that the trend may continue backwards. The dashes seem to vary between years though so I didn't fill those in. Once I get confirmation of them I will gladly update this.

yeah i presume this will maybe turn out like the craftsman date thread but if we can get some input from other people that have older versions we might be able to figure quite a number of years out.

Then again it might turn out to be nothing. I guess we'll find out. No big deal.

All of my 88 ratchets are stamp with a X, and I bought them all in 2010.

Anyone ever come across any more Matco date code meanings? I have a BR11T that has an X with two lines on the left and one on the right. I'm trying desperately to find a rebuild kit for this ratchet and I'm having no luck.

I have a B182 Matco 3/8" drive 9/16" short socket with the most microscopic code of N H J under the MATCO logo, but no idea how old the set is. It's the generation that had the hex with the circle under it logo. The new ones I guess are laser etched.

Got a nice fat breaker bar.
Maybe some one can guess the age by the logo font. The letters have a slight angle to them as opposed to straight block letter font.
There's also an 8 after Cornwell.

Ganymede I have been trying for years now to crack the cornwell date code system and I am still as lost as the day I started several years ago.

What I need is catalogs from every decade and tons of them, something that I have never been able to see as of yet.

Sorry I wish I could help you out, even calls to cornwell leave me in the dark as they do not know either.

Thanks Woody.
I've got a 94 catalog but the illustrations aren't the most detailed.

Woody, I asked an acquaintance of mine who works at Cornwell, and according to my source, the 2 digit codes on the ratchets are to signify which machine the handles were made on in their factory in Mogadore. Take this with a grain of salt.

I bought 5 new Cornwell ratchets in 2017, and the codes are: 1X (TR4), 2X (JR40), 1Y (JR40L), and 3X (SRF76A, SRF76L).
