Can anyone date this grinder? It's marked Delta, Rockwell, and Milwaukee. I like The guard's, have 2 bulbs each. Cast iron base, and wired 220. Picked it up at a garage sale for $60.00. It is one very smooth grinder. I'm going to leave it as is and use it. One side has been set up with a cut off wheel.

I forgot the picture of the water pot. Cast iron, don't know if it's something some one added or if it came that way.

Delta Rockwell and Milwaukee never merged.

Delta Manufacturing Co. was located in Milwaukee, WI from 1919 to 1952. From 1942 to 1952, they used a "Delta Milwaukee" triangular trademark.

Rockwell Manufacturing Co. bought Delta Manufacturing Co. in 1945 or thereabouts, and moved Delta out of Milwaukee in 1952, after which time, they used a "Delta Rockwell" trademark instead of Delta Milwaukee (until 1973, when they changed it again to "Rockwell International").

As a result of the moving around in the 1950s, Delta machine tools made between late 1952 and 1955 may have multiple nameplates listing both Delta-Milwaukee and Delta-Rockwell.

Nice score at an excellent price. IOW, you ****.

Delta 7" grinders of that era are among the best grinders of all brands ever made in the USA.

That reassures me of my purchase yesterday at an auction. Picked up this guy for $6. It needs side covers, spark arrestors, bulbs, new glass and all important tool rests. I'll look for the cooling cups later. I love how heavy it is! Model 23-105, 1/2 hp and according to vintage machinery it was made in 1950. Of course not as nice as Jaker's but I couldn't pass it up.

I have the same grinder, and the cup should have mounted on the sides of the guards. You can see the holes where the arm of the cup fits in.

Are you saying of that 1952-1955 era, or is it all those with the Marathon motors (ie, thru the 60's)?

I guess I could have stated that a little more clearly...

Delta 7" grinders were made from 1936 to the 1980s. All are good.

The oldest ones, from 1936 through 1942, have the most style (pedestal model with tool tray).

From 1936 to 1954 they used 3-piece tool rests, which have more adjustment range than the later 2-piece tool rests, but are right hand and left hand specific, so they can't be swapped side to side, which makes finding replacement parts a lot harder.

From 1955 to the end, they used 2-piece tool rests, which aren't as adjustable, but can be used on either side, and they're easier to find if your grinder has worn, broken or missing tool rests.
