i can't believe i am even considering this, but here you go.

i am looking at some snapon cabinets. sometimes, they have letters after the model number. i think today they are paint codes and such, but 30 years ago, i think that they referred to "generations" of the cabinets. one i see often is kr537D. dont think i have ever seen an a, b, c, or e.

is there a resource anywhere with a listing of cabinets and the time frames the various letter suffixes were made? i went over to collectingsnapon.com, as an example, and found that top cabinet in a 1983 catalog, so i suspect it is likely in that ballpark of age, rather than "about 20 years old" which would put it in the late 1990's. the catalogue pages were helpful, giving demensions and capacities of the drawers and cabinets, but 1983 seems to be the most recent general catalogue they have scanned in.

i looked at the forums over there, and they seem pretty sparse, and i think their focus is more in 1970's and before tools.

thanx for any help.

I read the title and thought this thread was going to be about some strange tool fetish or something.

I never date cabinets, you can never tell where they've been.

The kr537 top tool box was a very popular box in the day.

The first model did not have a front cover for the drawers on right. The designation "D" was a later model and probably was constructed slightly different than a "C".

Crew Chief above is correct, if you found the model number next to it is a two digit number signifying the year it was made.

And dating a 537 is usually a positive outcome. Mine put out the first date!

I'll suggest tying a 2x4 to your **** since it's going to be like throwing a hotdog down a hallway. Good luck.
