Hi all,
This is my first post here. I've been lurking for a while, and have been meaning to post sooner. So, greetings from the Great White North!
Some back story: In the summer, my wife and I bought our first house. We bought it via an estate, as the owners had passed. Their children were selling it as they were grown and had their own houses. So, we bought some items from them as we needed some furniture, as well as the contents of 2 sheds.
One of the sheds was packed with miscellaneous stuff - cardboard, photo albums, gardening stuff, and then a few boxes of tools. I've gone through them and found that there was some good quality stuff in there - mainly Snap-On and Craftsman stuff. I think the previous owners were either bigtime gearheads or mechanics, as we pulled about a dozen burned up Holley carbs out of the crawlspace, and found a ton of boxes and documentation from Holley, Carter, STP, etc. So, being as I'm a new homeowner and have only done the condo life previously, my tool selection was pretty weak. Finding a cache of tools was great! I was hoping to get some help on dating the stuff so I have an idea on their age and if there's any maintenance that needs to be done to them.
So, without any further ado, here's some of the better stuff to come out of the shed and basement:
Craftsman
Toolbox
Gray toolbox with red insert. Most of the tools were crammed into the toolbox. Pretty heavily rusted, but also patina'ed. Looks like the paint was originally gray. It has 1 red insert inside. No date codes or stamps other than the name on the front. Also no decals I can see or any location where they might have been.
Mini ratchet/socket set in case
This set again has a lot of surface rust on the metal case but is pretty sound. It had a full set of sockets, a ratchet, a breaker bar, a sliding ratchet, a couple of extensions, and an unrelated mini wrench. All pieces seem to be in decent condition but a good cleaning is required. The ratchet has a small ball bearing at the top for lubrication. All tools have a raised N on them.
1/2" tools
There was a sliding ratchet, a drill style ratchet, and a traditional ratchet. The ratchet has a ball bearing for lubrication at the top. Others are marked with a =V= on them. The extension has the number 44262 stamped below a -v- marking.
