Dayton air compressor question

I have an old Dayton air compressor in my grandfather's garage that will be coming home with me soon (along with the free 80 gal Quincy that I just had rebuilt) and I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about it. I haven't seen it in person for some time, but I do know that it is older and definately something that I want to keep in the family. I gotten tons of great info by lurking around for the past few years that I would like to thank everyone here for....great place to waste an hour or two reading!

This looks to be a good, through cleaning job.
The first thing to do is take off the belt and be sure you have a working motor. If not you have a fix or replace decision.
While the belt is off, try turning over the compressor by hand. This is a 5 min job. If it spins OK, at least the bearings and bores are not rusted tight. If you want to, pull the cyl heads to check the bores for rust. A little oil and emorycloth should be enough.
Do you know what kind of valves there are on the intake side? If they are reed valves, you may want to see if you can get replacments. At the least, oil and emerycloth them.
These are not complex machines. The biggest problem will be rust due to lack of use.

i don't have any direct info on your compressor......tough looking ole' compressor, though.....

i had an old U.S. Air Compressor a while back and it had that same motor.....think it was a 1 1/2hp motor....i had to put a new start capcitor on it....took right off! also, i'd make sure to drain that tank too......
