Hey guys,

My POR 15 project was a disaster. I spent more than $2,000 on the garage floor project and HOURS of work; the result is a nice lookking floor in BEIGE plus chips but NOT functional with warm, wet tires (see POR 15 thread).

Thus, I need to TILE 2/3 of my garage with a high quality tile. My wife wants the BEST this time and insists that we FINISH this project even if it costs $3,000 more. CAn anyone help with picking the BEST tile regardless of price?

I like Race Deck but is SwissTRax better? Race Deck is easy to deal with and is a known brand. Anyone use SwissTrax or Daytona? I know about the discount DynoTile and the discount Daytona tile with logo but my wife wants the flexibility of many colors, a high quality product and a real warranty with return policy. After my POR 15 disaster I agree with her.

Any comments or opinions are appreciated.

If you want the best, imho, try Tuff-Seal interlocking tiles
www.tuffsealtiles.com

Price: $4.95 ft (new); $3.75 ft (recycled)
Heavy-duty 18” x 18” flexible PVC interlocking tiles, 11 colors, 4 surfaces (smooth, stud, cleats, diamond). Samples/orders at website; ships direct to your site.

Once the tiles have been tapped together with a rubber mallet (no adhesive is needed), the interlocking seams are watertight and virtually invisible. No walk-on noise (as with RaceDeck, SwissTrax, etc.), in fact, it reduces noise, dust, etc. I’ve put it down directly over ¼” wide cracks, uneven surfaces, oil/grease stains, old epoxy, you name it with virtually no concrete slab prep except sweep/vac. These tiles can be (and are) used in virtually ANY interior application, not just garages, including below-grade, wet/moisture-prone areas, commercial, industrial, schools, kitchens, even aircraft hangars. A typical 400 s.f. garage takes less than a day to install and can be used immediately. Also, simple cleaning and tile removal/reuse.

Thanks, but no thanks. I decided on RaceDeck or SwissTrax diamond for my floor. Anyone know the difference? Are they equivalent?

Don't know the difference but my Racedeck is freakin awesome, 5 years old and still looks great when I go out and wash it.

Put a few holes in it with weld splatter and it was easy to fix.

I love my Race Deck! great product and great customer service

Anyone use SwissTrax? Anyone compare a sample of RaceDeck and Swiss Trax for quality? My plan is to get samples and compare the products. If equal or close then I am going to buy Race Deck.

If only they would make a version that is solid plastic with a smooth surface... and isn't $4 per sqr ft... $1000 for a floor I can swing, but $3600? no... especially for something that isn't what I want (a smooth surface)... :(

I sell both, Swisstrax is a better tile but normally much more expensive. I did notice they are on sale right now on jnkproducts.com. They are only $2.89 per Sq. Ft.

My racedeck samples arrived today. Nice. How do I get two tiles from SwissTrax? Then, I will compare quality, thickness, tightness, etc. side by side.

You have to pay for them :(
Here is a tip: if it comes down to price, I know Race Deck will beat Swisstrax's price if you mention it to them

Free samples of several types of garage floor tiles are available via garagefloor.com. Personally, I think price should be your last consideration when it comes to tile. You’ll find people biased towards all sorts of products, especially those who work with them and are not up front about it. I wonder who makes the Costco tile?? I’m surprised to see RaceDeck will match the $2.89 price. But speadrider sure does seem to know and talk about racedeck a lot so I am sure if he says they will match the price they will.

As for the old bend the tile over your knee trick. I’ve seen to many people play to many games with this one. I have a hunch that some manufacturers send seconds out as samples (which probably is not the best idea) and other manufacturers exploit it. I have never had a Swisstrax tile break, but then again I have never driven a truck over one while sitting over something resembling someone’s knee (and upside down to boot!.)

I went back to the office and grabbed a couple of samples of every brand of tile I could find. I’m here to tell you that upside down you can break all of them!

JSKO-
I know a lot about Race Deck because I have had in my garage for some time now and I also spent a considerable amount of time researching all of the products on the market, this was a significant investment for me at the time.

There are a lot of people on this forum who know a lot about whatever product they have in their garage. The reason I know they will match the price is because they did it for me when I called. I DO NOT WORK FOR RACE DECK! I just like their product. I think if you type in any subject you will find lot's of opinions and lot's of "experts' and they is what makes this forum so great:beer:

I would be concerned about a smooth tile, these things are slippery and the diamond plate really helps that.

And how is this different than an epoxy or VCT covered floor?

Has anyone with one of these tile systsm tried rolling a car on 3000 lb dollies over them? coin or diamond pattern? So far, my experience is limited... A Sears near me used to have some diamond plate flooring set up under their tool box display... and just rolling empty boxes across the floor was difficult... Sam's Club had a package of their coin-pattern flooring set up for a display... just rolling a shopping cart across it was not fun.

I won't argue that these floors look great. But unless they are 100% functional, how it looks is worthless to me. And I'm not about to spend $3000 on a flooring system only to find out it won't work for me. :(

My 4-post lift has casters, to get the 4 legs up with the caster you have to have weight on the ramps, meaning a car on the lift. I have moved my 4-post lift on the diamond plate Racedeck. Its a problem to get started but nothing I can't handle by myself and once moving it keeps going just fine.

What you seem to think of as a negative, I think of as a positive, when I move my tool cart/box near my expensive paint job the tool cart/box stays put and does not roll into my car.

I've had both company's products on my deck for over two years. The Swisstrax has held up much better with the other company's tiles warping and color fading. Swisstrax has a longer and better warranty. It's also thicker.

I had to laugh at this thread. It has my OLD JNK user ID on here. Maybe the moderator can get it back for me :D

Swisstrax and Racedeck are great products. I always suggest getting a sample first. If you need samples please drop me an email with your address and the patterns / colors you are looking at.

I have nothing but positive reviews in dealing with RaceDeck. Great customer service, great product, 100% happy with mine. Couldn't ask for it to be any better.

How long to install and do you have the click clack noise when walking on them?

No sound what so ever. Took me about an hour to lay all the whole tiles. I had cuts all along the opposite wall from where I started. That took me around 2 hours. 3 hours total in the job. I used the same color scheme as Dubber and love it!!

hi, asking this for a friend that's doing a 2000 square foot shop he has tamped sand and gravel waiting for weather to warm a little. He asks if a person forgot the cement and say layed heavy rubber ,like horse stall down ,then put swisstrack or your race deck down ,would it make a shop floor as long as no one was washing in it?

I have RaceDeck/Gladiator floor and love it. Dont know much about Swisstrax except that you dont have a GarageJournal Discount, and the tiles are not measured in 1foot x 1foot squares; they are metric - so if I were interested in Swisstrax, I would measure carefully.

IMHO that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. He would be better off using a product designed to go directly over packed soil
