Dazor P 2134 convert to LED

My P 2134 was getting hot at the base. I opened it up and the insulation was cooked off the ballast leaving bare wire. I removed the ballasts and the capacitor. It was time to convert to LED. I only used the brown and white wires from the base. I did not use the red and yellow wires so I capped them off. I completely bypassed the on/off switch since I could only get one side to work.

At the light switch I only used the brown and white (hot and common) coming from the base. The 2 tombstones at one side were connected to the brown wire and the same for the other side were connected to the white wire. Both tubes (TB bypass tubes were used) work just fine. I used a plug switch with an on/off to turn the light on and off.

This wiring is exactly the same as a 4 ft Fluorescent to LED conversion to a ballast bypass setup.

I've included a rudimentary wiring diagram.rudimentary wiring diagram.jpg

@micrometer - thanks for the information.

Can you share the details of the bulb you used?

I have several 2 tube Dazor's and I recently tried a pair of "Feit Electric - 15-Watt Equivalent 18 in. T8 G13 Type A Plug and Play Linear LED Tube Light Bulb, Cool White 4000K". They didn't work with in several otherwise working lights, but the boxes had been opened when I received them so it's possible they were customer returns and someone else had blasted them in some manner.

I have successfully installed several "Feit Electric - 15-Watt 8 in. T9 G10q Type A Plug and Play Linear Circline LED Tube Light Bulb, Selectable White" bulb in my Luxo Color Correct Lamps without messing with the ballasts.

Cheers

Here's the tube I used. It is a ballast bypass tube and not a plug/play. They were $16 on Amazon. In fact I could not find a plug/play in a 18 inch tube. The pic only shows one side but both work with my wiring. I only bought one tube to make sure it would work. I've since ordered a second tube. satco tube.jpegsatco tube 2.jpeg

Here's the actual way I wired the white (yellow in the pic) wire in my diagram above. It's the same as my 4ft Fluorescent to LED bypass conversion.

Final thoughts:

IMG_0331.jpeg
Both tubes working.

IMGP0001.JPG

Wiring and switch removed.

Base and items pulled

The light works great! No more heat. Ballasts/capacitor removed. Tubes suppose to last 50,000 hours. The light will out live me.

Enjoy!
