Hello, I would like to wire a 24V DC motor for a fishing rod wrapper. I’m going to need a converter, and a speed controller, with reverse capability, and a switch to run either off a foot pedal or continuously off the speed controller.
The motor I’m looking at will draw no more than one amp and 25 W. However I would like to overbuild it slightly to accommodate a larger motor in the future if I decide to change.

There does not appear to be a one-stop solution for this available. Anyone know of anybody that has done this, or wiring diagrams on the Internet? Thanks

Easiest:

go ebay buy an pwm motor controller if your 24V motor is brushed DC motor. you'll needed to get the power supply separately.

something like this unit. (yes, I do have this unit, but not used as fishing rod wrapper)

The unit have a reverse switch build in..

the variable switch knob on this particular unit also have an on-off witch... you'll see 5 wires... connecting to it...
3 of it is connecting to a variable resistor I think it's a 100K or 50K.
2 of the wire is acting as on/off you can snip that and connect to a foot paddle like the cheap ones they sell on Harborfreight or amazon... AC on/off foot paddle.

if you have a fancy tig foot switch that have variable output.. pretty sure you can id those 5 wires and used that. The miller dynasty 14 pin one I have is a 100K variable resistor and on/off wire.

if you have a brushless Motor , then look into the one that they sell for E-bikes.

the more fun.

Go google up DIY PWM motor controller with H-bridge. Not cheaper but more fun.

the manual one..
Just buy any PWM motor speed controller, and use a DPDT center off switch to reverse your motor, it has to be appropriately rated for the amp and volt, volt type.

Thanks, that looks like a good solution. I also need the motor to run for 12-18 hours at low RPM so epoxy can harden while rod turns. So on/off can’t run off foot pedal , any idea how to get the foot pedal in there?

The foot pedal is just off-on and not a speed control, yes? If so, just use a toggle switch to by-pass it.
