I'm working on a project at home installing an aliphatic urethane as a garage floor sealer. Everything went OK on the first attempt, except that I ran short of product and did not get 100% coverage. I purchased more product to apply (after the original coat cured for a few weeks). The manufacturer recommended de-glossing the surface before re-coating.
First I tried a pole sander with drywall screen, which did nothing. Then, I rented an orbital floor sander with 80-grit screen, which also did virtually nothing. This stuff really is very hard and abrasion resistant! Finally, I tried 60-grit paper, which did remove the gloss. Unfortunately, the original diamond grind prep left the floor with a slightly uneven surface, and the sander only hits the high spots, leaving about 50% of the surface untouched. I don't want to risk an adhesion problem.
The only solution I could think of was a nylon abrasive brush cup on my 7" variable speed polisher. Here is an example:
