I picked this stuff up from someone who advertised it on craigslist

He was asking $75 but I didnt really have the cash but I did have a Westernfield 30-30 that needed a fair amount of work. He told me he would buy the parts for it if I would fix it and then do the trade. I did it, I think he got a pretty good deal but the rifle had been sitting for about 10 years after I picked it up in a pawn shop and I never got around to fixing it.

Went to his place and he had tons of stuff laying around. A few 40' trailers full of stuff and outbuildings and a barn with stuff. He also had some bed frame rails I got from him for my Lathe Bench project.

I also got the yellow table and the made in taiwan bench grinder. We will see how the grinder works out but the table is real nice.

I started tearing the drill press down tonight and have it about 90%. The top casing, bottom, and middle plate are on that rusty shaft pretty good. I have the top close to coming off just trying not to bust the cast iron.

It looks like the only things I will need to buy is a bearing for the bottom of the shaft, some paint (should have some, maybe not the right color), and a belt. The motor looks to be from a washing machine.

The chuck is a screw on (not sure what it is called). I will keep this updated as I make progress.

Looks good! About getting the top off, make sure you don't just loosen the knobs, but pound the wedges that grip the column out. Usually those are frozen in, not the column itself.

I really wish somebody had told me that when I did my craftsman, I had been pounding away and the wedges moved eventually and everything slid smoothly.

Yep, they hold it fairly tight. Finally got the top off, now for the middle part and the bottom. The bottom is going to be the worst.

This is a pretty timely topic for me. I inherited a Sprunger DP 12 drill press from my grandfather. It's in great shape, however, the chuck and spindle can be pushed up about an inch, so I think something is missing. I'm going to tear into it around Christmas. Anyone have any suggestions what to look for?
