It can be easy but there is always something that can make it into a hairball. I think we can all agree that amateur ******* can cost someone a limb or their life.
That said, I doubt a safe ramp could be built for 75 bucks that could convince any competent driver to offload from a freight truck. That driver is looking for a way to unload safely and quickly, and if they show up and its a sketch fest then they will either refuse to deliver or have you sign the paperwork with no damage comments and then step back and watch, just so they have no liability.
To me 50 to 75 bucks is money well spent on a lift gate if that is what is needed, especially for something that is as top heavy as a compressor. It puts the onus on them to get it to you in 1 piece, which is already a hard enough job, and if it dumps off the lift gate then that is why THEY have insurance. I won't be happy but I have zero problems with waiting on a replacement versus waiting in the ER, getting maimed, or being buried.
Just my 2 cents
