Cranberry is a copyrighted color name created and held by Crayola Corporation. Anyone wanting to use the name must pay them or come up with a color of their own.

Just send the box back to Snap-on and I'm sure they'll warranty it.

Dear lord... for as much as they charge for those over-priced things, you'd at least think they'd be able to afford to send their employees to night-school for their GED.

I hesitated to post a reply to this thread for fear of starting a flame war, offending people, and getting lots of hate mail, and I'm a new forum user to boot, but here goes anyway:

I do think that the original post is funny. You would expect that someone would check the spelling of something that is going to be plastered all over the place. But the fact is that people don't, or, even worse, multiple people may have seen the mistake before printing and not noticed it.

What I cringe at, but hold my tongue about, is the spelling, grammar, and usage of about 50 to 75 percent of the posts to all online forums that I peruse. I used to teach English, and I still work in education and do tutoring. It's amazing how many adults make as many mistakes as they do. I used to think it was a generational thing, but people older than I as well as younger than I do it.

Here are a few examples: "He love's his tool's. I now he doe's. My Parent's dont know were too put there new Toolbox. My sister use to be thinner, and i use to be to."

If you can find 14 mistakes in the quotation above, you may join me as an honorary member of SGUP (The Spelling/Grammar/Usage police). If not, feel free to keep posting quality contributions with all mistakes included.

Now I hope no one takes me too seriously in this. Although I still cringe at seeing the mistakes, I stop short of correcting writing mistakes in the forums!

Just had to point that out. Looks like the classic ``started to edit, but didn't quite finish'' mistake.

I counted 15.

I feel for you, Ed...

I fixed the mistake, and now I'm going to go bury my head in the sand. I used to say that I was a better editor than a writer. I hope I'm allowed just this one mistake. As embarrasing as it is, I'll try to get on with my life. And I was going to offer to be the official Garage Journal proofreader. Is it possible to abdicate before seizing the throne?

Gaudere's law strikes again!
http://ianferrel.wordpress.com/2005/05/19/gauderes-law/

Gaudere is a friend of mine and prob the closest I'll get to internet fame :)

Does that law apply here, though? Maybe not, as I was not pointing out a mistake made by a previous poster, but made the mistake while giving a further example.

I'd better be careful. Prospective employers already comb the internet (not always capitalized anymore) looking for their candidates' exploits. This could ruin my chances of getting a job as a copy editor!

I usually don't use emoticons, but, yes, I do realize much of the last part of this thread is in good fun.

Hee! I've noticed on far too many occasions where the correcting posts/entries invariably have their own error(s). I just never knew the phenomenon had a name. I must remember that one.

Erdonline, don't take any of these wry fingerpointings as nothing more than good natured fun. I am quite the grammar nazi myself, but I'm also human (with big, clumsy paws) and make my own mistaeks. ;)

Rediculous! I find it quite funny how often you see mis-prints on boxes and labels.

As far as the grammar thing, not horribly picky about it.... I just wish people would read through what they type to make sure it makes sense! There are several posts that ramble on and jump around so bad you can even understand them!

I agree, I wont throw any darts at people for poor spelling or grammar. He who is without sin right? We all have different education levels and all, but some folks get on here and start posting after too much nog.
