Finally killed my first snap on tool. Working on a buddies lifted Cummins last night trying to replace the U-joints in both rear shafts. I hadnt even used the peen side, I was just giving them a little smoke to finish driving the old caps out and pop she just came off :headscrat

Definitely not all new break, just a weird place for it too happen. All is well though, called them up this morning and a new one is already en route.

The location definitely caught me off guard as well! As far was what would have started the the crack your guess is as good as mine. She has seen quite alot of beatings in her life... not to mention the rage fueled poundings when something just doesn't wanna cooperate :willy_nil

I've seen a couple of hammer's loose face at work like that. Apparently Snap-on's have a weak point there.

I had the Blue Point version of that same type hammer. The plastic handle disintegrated on mine. Snap-On truck guy gave me a new one, but Snap-On this time. :)

It was definitely strange to me, whether it was in fact just a fluke of metallurgy or just abuse i guess we will never know. Im just glad it was the peen side that popped so i could still use the "war club" to finish the job LOL.

The best part was the look on my buddies face when it popped off thinking I was Thors ******* child

I have that exact hammer and 2 years for a working hammer isn't bad. Better than the wooden handle cheapies at least they will warranty it

MattVette89- That was awesome!! Thank you for the laugh of the day.

I have no qualms at all about it breaking, it had a good run. I was by no means bashing it, I was just intrigued with how it happened. The fact that 3 minutes on the phone this morning with a incredibly nice and chipper customer service lady and i had a new one en route speaks volumes on that front.

And OHMS LAW, I love wood handle hammers but after using these things for any extended amount of time there is no comparison IMO.

I've broken 2 or 3 of those in the last 2 years. Mine usually break free from the handle though, and start sliding back and forth. Or they start to crack like yours, then break free.

All in all, after using a wilton unbreakable, the snap-on hammer is kinda weak. You can feel the give they have, even when new. Decent tool, but it can't be your go-to, or at least I can't trust it to be.

Pardon my french, but this thing will **** some **** all up: http://www.tooltopia.com/wilton-404...scplp6832487&gclid=CLGH8efmgccCFYeRHwodlcICBA

Yes, Trusty Cook is superior to all dead blow hammers IMO.

The trusty cook the handles break internally so easily. So it's just a matter of time before the snap on or the trusty cooks break. It's a hammer you beat the living hell out of it A LOT. I have both have had both for quite some time all of them get warrantied.
