I'm trying to build up my tool collection. Since I'm just a rookie a best I have been buying a lot of cheap Tekton tools off Amazon. So far there working well enough.

I need some torx and hex sockets. I like the idea of getting a reasonable selection of bit socket. For some reason I cant seem to find a set I like. What are the essentials? General repairs and 1500 RAM.

Tekton does have several sets to choose from.
Yes, Tekton does. Clear winners are not easy for me to spot though. Naturally Id like to buy as few as possible with the least amount of overlap as possible. I'm not sure which Tekton sets I would have to buy.

I have their bit driver/screw driver sets. So I dont think I need the very small ones, but Id still like a decent selection for sockets.

I’ve got this set from Capri and I’ve been happy with it. Chrome looks nice and overall quality is higher than I expected... granted I’m a non-professional, but they’re better quality than box-store brands or other Gearwrench I own.

Capri Tools CP30004 S2 Star Torx And External Socket Bit Set 35-Piece, Silver https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LXLN9YY/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I broke the T40 doing something I probably shouldn’t have, emailed Capri about warranty and they just needed a picture of the broken bit and copy of the sales receipt. Brand new bit shipped the same day and it arrived about two days later, free, no questions asked. I’m definitely happy with their customer service.

I also have a VIM Triple-Square set that’s fantastic. Can’t go wrong with them either.

It really depends on how much you want to spend. All hex and torx sockets will eventually break if used hard. Tekton would be a good choice as it is easy to warranty and their sets generally don't skip too many sizes. If you want to spend the money, buy the VIM torx and hex master sets.

Plus 1 for the OTC set it's sold under a few other brands, really nice selection of torx sockets and really strong.

As for my allen I have Sonic Tools, they have really surprised me for been 3/8 sockets and i've pretty much used them where I shouldn't.

I never paid website asking price, but they have been really good.

As you can see there are many options but very few absolutely complete sets. Subjectively I think VIM is a little better than Capri but both work fine. Many e-Torx sets skip E-11 (common on Euro cars). My biggest issue with the big sets is they use 1/4" drive for about half the set. Modern ratchets are much stronger but I still prefer 3/8" generally above T10.

If you don't have any bit sockets at all yet this is a nice set because it includes a wide variety in both regular and long lengths.

But it does not include T70 or any Torx Plus, tamper proof, etc. Many sets also skip T47.

This set is currently on sale and includes sizes not found in any other kits I've seen.
