Decent, moderately priced Christmas tree stand?

My girlfriend and I just put up a 10-foot Christmas tree at her parents' house. They have a flimsy, cheap tree stand that made the job very difficult. It was a huge fiasco, which involved much cursing and damaging the stand. We got it up, but it's pretty precarious. I was thinking of getting them a better one as a Christmas present.

So, what's a decent stand that won't break the bank?

I've heard of this brand before, but there's no way I'm dropping $100 + for a stand.

I gave up trusting conventional Christmas tree stands decades ago. I cut a 4 ft X 3 ft piece of ply wood, and cut that 1/2 round and the stand gets screwed to the plywood.

In addition, I have two old adjustable truck mirror diagonal braces and I bent one end of each brace to about 45 degrees, and I screw that to the ply, with a #12 pan head screw, the other end is adjusted to hit the tree trunk and gets screwed to that. by the time the decorations and cotton "snow" is in place, you can't see any of it...

I am nearly certain that the stand that my wife bough at Wal-Mart last year is USA-made, and works well. We got it after the chintzy kind like the one you link to above threw me into a rage when it got stuck on the base of a tree.

I will see if I can confirm what it is tomorrow.

Prior to that, I did as described above and screwed my stand to a piece of plywood. The decorative tree blanket thingy covers it all up.
