Re: Decent Soldering Iron or Soldering Gun?

Just got this Anbes kit for $20 off Amazon. On off switch on cord. Adjustable temp on iron. Desoldering tool, tweezers, and even solder. Heated up quick, and easily soldered a new capacitor onto an overhead console circuit board.
Not happy it's made in China, and the instructions are in very broken English, but it works good.8f66c716f2c2fb94aa147b0fbce2b493.jpg

Hakko FX888D is the defacto high quality standard ($100)
Cheaper solid quality alternatives would be the TS100 and TS80, they will run you in the $45-80 range. The Ts100 is higher power but you have to supply your own power supply; while the TS80 is lighter and can use a standard QuickCharge 3.0 adapter to power it.

I got a bankers box full of WES50 and WES51 solder stations a while back. Totally blew away the pencil iron I'd been using for years.

Heavy stuff, see Hexacon. Lighter duty, Hakko.

Plus tons of off brand stuff on Amazon/Ebay.

Weller turned me off with their CS, denying all responsibility for several (new) defective units. Plus they are made in Mexico now.
