Decided to Grind...???

I have some sort of sealer on my new concrete floor that I need to remove prior to laying the new epoxy floor.

From my local Sunbelt, I have a few different pieces of equipment that I could rent and I am looking for some input.

The options are:
-7" Hilti Handheld Grinder with vac and diamond head for $157/day
-EDCO Concrete Grinder Dual Disc Electric- $77/day + stones

The Dual disc can either have heavy abrasive stones for an additional $36/day or diamond stones for an additional $60/day.

I am thinking that Dual Disc walk behind grinder is the best bet. Will the abrasive stones do the trick or should I get the diamond stones? Any reason I should get the handheld over the walk behind?

Thanks guys and gals!

For the price they are charging for the 7", it makes more sense to get the big one. The drawback is that you can't get as close to walls with the Edco and you may not be able to get down into any valleys/birdbaths. The abrasive stones will probably get the coating up, but diamonds will also prep the surface of your concrete giving you a better mechanical bond than acid etching. Go with the diamonds.

Also if the Edco misses any areas you can get a diamond cup wheel and put it on a 4" angle grinder (they are cheap to buy). Make sure you have decent power because some larger Edcos can draw a lot of power.

Thanks for the input! I am going to call my local Sunbelt this afternoon and set up the EdCo for next week!

Depending on your SF and what shape your knees and back are in, a 7" is definately cheaper. The floor model with the diamond wheel on it is your best bet. I agree with the post on doing touch up work with an inexpensive 4" grinder if needed.
