Deciding between a Makita and Metabo Grinder

I'm debating between a
Makita 9564CV http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005Q7BE/?tag=atomicindus08-20

and a Metabo W9-115
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TQEUVUA/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I've researched both these models individually as much as possible. Heard great things about Metabo, and I like its not made in China. The 12 Amp Makita seems like it'd be pretty beastly. I'm replacing a 7 amp Dewalt D28110 that has seen its time. Both seem good choices... So looking for any personal remarks people might have on these.

im a fan of metabo over makita in grinders, i love the wp11-150 that i've got, mainly use it for cutting, and it makes short work of anything with 6" slicer discs.

Can't say how the two compare, but it's worth noting that the Metabo will have a 3 year warranty vs only a year for the Makita.

I don't think you can get a better tool than a Metabo, they're a little pricey but the best always is. I haven't had any of there cordless tools so I don't know about them. A Makita is a good tool for the money but they really aren't in the same class as Metabo.

Wife's family works industrial construction.

They use metabo.

Metabo has become like Xerox and Kleenex. They use it to refer to all grinders.

Thanks guys. Metabo it is. I like the design of W9 too with the vents in the back so your hands never cover them up inadvertently. Looking forward to escaping the plethora of chinese made angle grinders.

Funny you should say that.. my dad always tells me to grab the Makita when he needs the grinder..

I have both makita and metabo 4 1/2" grinders and prefer the metabo. Just feels like a more robust tool.
I work in industrial maintinance and all our hand power tools, corded and cordless, are metabo.
At home most of my stuff is makita.

DO NOT BUY THE MAKITA!!
I'm glad I saw this because I've saved you a lot of frustration. I've had 3 makitas. They all look just like that one but with a differnt part number. The button that locks the motor to remove/replace blades pops off and good luck finding it. You can't run the grinder without the button b/c it also put upwards pressure on that locking mechanism-without it the grider would lock up at full speed and good luck with that. I've had 3 and they have all don't the same thing. Makita will warranty it though cuz I've only paid for one but now my warrantys up. Take a look at milwakuee if you haven't already they make nice grinders also.

Use a Metabo for more than a few minutes and your hands/arms will thank you. Very well-built grinders.

I have a Metabo and Makita and they are both great grinders. The Makita has a higher amp motor, but the Metabo is smoother. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with either for home use. If I had to chose one it would be the Metabo.

In your basement...seriously, go look now!
A better comparison would be Fein to Metabo as both are German made and both are considered very high quality toolmakers. I own a PC paddle switch grinder but I use it mostly to cut block and clean off rust so it suits my purpose - for ********* industrial grinding, I'd probably pick the Metabo (not knocking Fein but I know little of their grinders, more familiar with their oscillating tools).

What I got from your videos Monte; if you're going to buy a metabo, make sure you buy one with the marathon motor, because the other ones perform as good as their competitors.

Tried one of the metabo for the welding shop at work. Lasted the average year all the 4.5 seem to last no matter what brand. The locking button to change discs on a Makita does **** to though. My thoughts are whatever's name brand and on sale.

Another vote for Metabo - I have a W8-115 Quick and its my go-to small angle grinder.

I REALLY like the tool-less nut (Quick system) makes it so I'm not looking for the stupid pin spanners all the time. I usually will take the time to change discs on the metabo vs just picking up one of my other angle grinders.

I have that Fein, and can't say I'm that impressed with it. Its louder than the Metabo and doesn't feel nearly as smooth - puts my hands to sleep after a few minutes.

6" disc on 4.5" grinder?

Sure. Once the guard is off, the sky is the limit. You just gotta be aware. I don't advocate removing guards and safeties needlessly but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to get the job done

Metabo. I love the tool less wheel system and they have lasted 3 times longer than the dewalts and makita. The trigger is the most comfortable as well
