Ok here is my dilema, due to fact that the dealership I am working at now has been stringing me on from when I first started working and wont switch me to hourly so I can have a mentor (requirement for GM ASEP) I have been applying at other dealerships and hopefully I will have a job with a local caddy dealership on wednesday, but unfortunatly for me they do not supply the tool boxes(dealership I work at now does because they just opened in 06 and they wanted everything to look uniform) so I am looking to buy a box, not having too many tools yet because I am a lube tech currently, I have narrowed it down to 2 choices

1.Matco MSC12 Master Service Rollaway Cart for $650(votech pricing)
http://www.matcotools.com/Catalog/toolcatalog.jsp?cattype=T&cat=2215&select=&page=3

2.Matco 4S 1BAY 22" ROLLAWAY FIR/CHM 4122R-RC for $650(Votech pricing)

My opinion is to get the 4s 2 bay or 3bay, You might as well take advantage of getting 50% off and get the largest box you can afford. If I remember correctly you should be able to get the 4s 2bay for around 1400. If you are dead set on the above two then I would suggest the 4s 1bay just because its more box for the money.

can you give us a sketch of waht your work bay will be size wise?................and as for buying a premium quality right off the bat, maybe a lower quality with more storage might be the answer until you see what the other guys at the dealership are using..................myself i am partial to no top chests as i like to have a worksurface to put stuff..............also another thing that i learneed at one shop was the individual[read *******] responsible for washing the floor thought nothing of hosing the **** on the floor while cleaning at the guys boxes...............lucky for me i had an old beach that had a clamshel cover on it so a quick wipe and i was fine...............the others wanted to string him up but he was the owners relative or something.................btw, good on you taking control of your future............heard too many times where people are led down the garden path only to realize they have too much time invested to make a change......

Did you look at any of the Snap-On boxes from the Student Excellence Program? If you are a student, those are a great deal. Plus they would have a higher resale value than a Craftsman or any other store bought brand.

Craftsman Deluxe Service Cart
Sears item# 00959691000 Mfr. model# 59691 $279.99

This comes up on the Craftsman club from time to time; some have mentioned the Snap-On Blue Point line of service carts as well; with your 1/2 off discount may not be a bad idea; if you get a small rollaway it will give you room to grow... just a thought...

The Craftsman club just started and is through this week; so see if the box is part of that discount, may save you some dough!

I hope it isn't a maroone or courtesy autonation dealer
I say go low cost , you are in florida , it is not snowbird season yet [no work !] and you still have to eat
when I was in florida in 03 , they were paying the kid 7 bucks an hour [what I was getting paid as a trainee in 84 ] he ended up making more money as a ballroom dance instructior

OUCH....

Ducroix: you dont have to own high end toolbox if you do entry level.. i am heavy line technician which own a big boxes with tons of tools which i required myself the heavy duty boxes. i would recommend you to buy what you can afford without strave yourself or diffcult budget.

when i started in automotive industry, i own craftsman boxes which i had problems but when i had no rooms for more tools, i got mac tools box but it are ****! toolbox are too thin and bearing slides already bent after used it for few months (i was heavy line tech and big truck mechanic for indy shop) then traded in for snap on boxes and happy since today...

please consider yourself what you can afford and what the box do for you. remember the toolbox are just storage of your tools that it not like your ego "bigger toolbox = bigger ego". ignore it...

The best question to ask is how many tools do you have right now? If you don't have that many a cheap box should be fine until you are done with school and are making better money.

I would personally look at the Cman 26" top and bottom chest combo in this months club flyer its $300 and should fulfill your needs until you need something bigger.

I'd grab the Costco 42" stainless box combo for about $650 paired with the Harbor Freight service cart which is on sale this month for $179--an outstanding value.
