I am in the process of rebuilding two deck chairs. old boards were I think cedar or redwood.
I am thinking 5/4 x 10 x 27 inch span. old wood was 3/4 an was little "bouncy".
Frame is welded up black pipe dad built 50+ years ago. getting the frame powder-coated this week.

Advise ideas for kind of wood for the seat boards, Cedar deck board, treated pine, or ??????
Nice to relax on deck with adult beverage in afternoons. Dad built these before AC was common in houses to relax and visit with the mill village neighbors while house was cooling off from days heat. (can't recall any houses having AC then, only few had B&W tv, so you visited the neighbors outside or the porch) Has wide armrest for drink or plate of snacks. I have sanded these down and painted at least twice myself and someone else a time or two.

sorry for the rotated pictures

Yeah I would go with cedar or redwood. They would stain or paint nice that way. You could also consider composite deck boards. You would want to sand them thoroughly as the composite decking has a texture. You might be able to plain the deck boards down if they were a little too thick.

I've built about 15 adirondack chairs for family over the past 5 years.
The cedar ones - turn out absolutely beautiful with a clear spar urethane on them. But are very subject to aging and fading from the sun.
The green treated - cost about 1/2 as much as cedar. And use a tinted deck stain. They turn out looking like a brown treated, and can last any outside abuse.

Ayuh,..... The wood on 'em now, don't look bad,....

Sand the wood, 'n revarnish what's there,....

When I get the frames back from coating I will first sand and reinstall the existing boards. Since already have to replace bolts from rust, might as well replace boards. Gotta get new bolts, thinking SS carriage bolts, gonna look around and look at replacing boards also. looking for suggestions, had thought to use the sink cutout piece of corian I used for the table for the armrests, man made board for the seat and backrest......
any other thoughts?
