Deck Gate

The wife is wanting a gate for our deck to keep our outside dogs off of it. I am stumped on a solution with the vinyl siding. I want something that would be hinged, any ideas?

hinge it off the post , use a cane bolt into the deck to hold it closed, don't need to touch the siding at all

That is a great idea. The only downfall, we use this set of stairs daily to enter/exit the house. I think that way would be tricky getting on the deck from the stair side. I would love to not touch the siding, but this seems like the best option. thanks dude!

how large are the dogs? you could use some cafe style hinges if they aren't smart enough to know they just have to push the door

80ish pound labs. one dog definitely isn't smart enough to push it, and the other one would be too scared to. LOL!

Set another post at ground level and have the gate down there. Perhaps with a couple of feet of paving stones to give your feet some room to stand on while you open/close the gate.

Couldn't you just set a post on the side toward the house? Just cut the floor board to accept the 4x4 and lag bolt it to the deck frame.
