So my pole barn was recently dry walled and I will soon be adding baseboard and trimming out windows. Over the years I’ve gathered numerous items like license plates, banners, pictures, signs, etc. I want to put these up on the walls and wondering what others have done to keep it from looking random.

I'm going through the same thing but appear to be a few steps ahead of you. I attached a coupla happy-snaps. Help they help.

I grouped my stuff in four major categories: Packers, cars, traffic signs, and I-love-me stuff.

Some people have the gift of being able to see it ahead of time in their mind's eye.

I can't, too left brained.

I just go for a random look, if you keep acquiring eventually it will all fill out.

Another possibility is to lay it all out indoors on a floor or table (etc) and mess around with your layout until you like the result, take a picture, take some measurements and then apply that in the shop.

I admire the guys that can take an assortment of **** (meant in the good way!) and make it all look good together. I ain't that guy. I copy what I see others do either directly or similarly.

Also, I like SOME stuff, not every wall covered in stuff. I'm the same way with pegboard: Some is nice & practical and hang the stuff with some thought. But the guys that hang every thing they own in a haphazard way drive me crazy.

If I had more space and better "stuff" Id' try to do something similar to what GJ'er Boyd did. I love his. old garage. I understand he sold this house and he hasn't posted a new one safari as I know. Here are a few shots of his great old space for ideas:

These are good and give me a starting point. I may have to wait for my lift is built and work bench in place before I start hanging anything. I like the idea of setting items on the floor to get an idea of layout.

I resemble that statement!!! I love his Chevy, Had a 72 Blazer that I converted to two wheel drive and a 70 short wide box four wheel drive, wish I still had both.

Man, I just can't get over how much space some of you guys have. A LOT easier to organize and decorate if you have wall space for everything.

In my new-to-me 21x21 w/ tiny 2x5 alcove once all the gotta-be-there's are installed there's very little space for signs, license plates, my string of Castrol flags, etc.

Guess some things will go into a rotation. But then I've got to store them while they're not on the walls!!

This side is car/mustang/ford.

The other side of the garage has Coca Cola signs

No wall space to decorate...just takes valuable space away for tools and equipment :) in a way the equipment is the decoration!

I guess I'm a random guy, too. With that said, I do think the heck out of something before I put it up on the wall. Some things I've had several years and still can't decide where I'm putting them.
