This week I noticed my Fridge stopped making ice. This fridge is maybe 4 yrs old. Its a pile of ****. Its an LG. About a yr into having it the ice maker went out. It wasn't covered under warranty so we paid out of pocket to replace the ice box for 500ish.
Danny, I don't know which brands of refrigerator/freezer have new models with reliable ice makers. We had GE side-by-sides for three decades and I replaced the ice maker guts once. We bought a Samsung french door refrigerator/freezer with the ice maker in the refrigerator compartment (a 0° compartment in a 37° compartment!). I know it worked for the duration of the warranty but the third unit is sitting in the garage waiting for hell to freeze over. I put a standalone ice maker in the garage (hooked up to filtered house water) and it makes 8 pounds of ice a day. I put a bucket of ice in the Samsung freezer compartment every few days.

I ain't got no room to talk with how long it has taken me to get my Camaro going. But, I'm wanting to know how the Holley Sniper kit install has went on your jeep? Here lately I've been debating on installing one on the Camaro.

I still am paying our pool guy, they finally got their act together and I have a solid guy coming once a week actually doing his job. And they fired the service advisor. I hate pools. I have been in it a grand total of three times this summer.

Saturday was pool filter cleaning day. I took over pool duties from our pool guy. We didnt think he was doing that good of a job job for what he was getting paid so we decided to take over. Ive been doing it about 3 months. My pool hasn't turned green yet. Im still a novice when it comes to the pool. Every couple of weeks I get my water checked at the local pool supply in town. They recommend a conditioner to keep the chemicals in the pool so they dont evaporate in the sun. A few days later I could tell my filters needed to be cleaned. It seems like the condition likes to plug up my filters. With the pool clean the family enjoyed the pool over the weekend. Kids love to ruff house with me in the pool.
This week I noticed my Fridge stopped making ice. This fridge is maybe 4 yrs old. Its a pile of ****. Its an LG. About a yr into having it the ice maker went out. It wasn't covered under warranty so we paid out of pocket to replace the ice box for 500ish. After a few yrs of my ice machine not working it seemed the meat in the freezer was starting to thaw. I pulled all of the food out and was able to put in the other two fridges that we have. The wife an I tore it apart. I watched a few youtube videos but it didnt really point me in a direction that we could diagnosis it. The boss made the decision to replace it. We've never really been happy with the thing and have already paid someone to fix it. Now were waiting a week till the new one shows up.

This Friday will be my last day with the Fire Dept. Ill be officially retired...
Danny- https://www.troublefreepool.com/forums/ is all you need for the pool. Stop going to the pool store. Buy a REAL test kit (you can order from the forum too) and follow The advice on the forum. Also, use the “Pool Math” app. Salt water generator or liquid chlorine each a have slight difference in water balance so I won’t try and recommend what to do.
And dude, I know you know a sheriff that could have come and had a talk with the neighbor about blocking the plug…..

Is the "conditioner" CYA? (cyanuric acid)

If so, stop using it. It will only cause issues IMO.

The local pool places like to sell products, so take their advice with a grain of salt.
yes It is. I havent put it in the pull since ive cleaned the filter. Im gonna stay away from it.

@ Madison069 This is my one and only garage thread. As much traffic comes through my neighbors house they havent parked in front since ive talked to them. I think if they refuse to move their vehicle in the future ill just move it for them next time lol.
As for the Holley kit. I havent got it running on my jeep yet. Its my fault. I need to spend another two gs to get the ignition and distributor replaced. At the moment im not getting spark. The fuel pump and everything else works fine. Im sure ill have more time to work on it when we start having cooler temps. I do have a friend that installed one on his bronco. Hes had no issues with it thus far.

@sawduststeve I appreciate the advice, trust me ill take what i cant get. I ve been using the ph sticks. They we're recommended to me at the local pool supply in town. I started out using the chemicals to check the water but im not much of a chemist and didnt do that well in hs chemistry. So far my pool hasn't turned green so i must be doing something right.

@Bob Heine All samsung appliances/electrics have had zero issues. My fridge is an LG *the broken one* we've had it for 3-4 yrs. Nothing but problems with it. Cant keep up making ice and its got a small ice box. You may laff but we bought another LG... But this time we got the extended warranty. Im thankful that I had two beer fridges that I was able to put my food in. If we didnt that would have been a lot of wasted food.

@shakenfake We had two different pool ppl prior to me taking over. The first one was great at taking care of my pool but she was bat **** crazy. She chewed my mother in law out when we were out of town. Then she just up and left. The next week we had pool guy #2. I found him in my yard taking care of my pool when he told me that he was taking over. I was pretty pissed at the lady for not telling me or my wife prior to giving someone we hadn't met our gate code. We use the **** out of our pool. Every weekend and sometimes during the week in the evening. Kids are little fishes. During the week if im working out side ill throw my board shorts on and jump in right quick to cool off.

@That Guy Scott Thanks for the forum info! I need something like that. The only reason Ive been getting my stuff at the local pool supply place is that they test my water for free every couple of weeks. I just like to make sure im doing the right thing. The prices they have aren't bad. Compared to other places online they re cheaper. But im sure ill find a better place. Once I get the hang of it i probably wont be going there anymore.

@M.Brane Our dishwasher is an LG thats the only LG that hasn't broke yet... i hope the thing doesn't quit working im over shopping for appliances.

Today 8/10 is the first day of retirement. 20 yrs with the Fire dept it was time to move on. My family an I weren't able to keep up with my never being home. I look back at the great career I had. Met some really cool ppl, did some really cool **** and made it out alive!. Im only 41 and starting a new journey thats a little slower paced. I cant remember running my last medical aid or running my last fire. The last yr and half I was off the floor. 1 yr for a knee surgery and 6months to carry me where I wanted to leave. Some of these pictures bring back some good memories.

On a Powerstroke update. I just spent 700 bucks on steering components that I need to replace. My front end is worn out. 135k it needs new ball joints, tie rods and track bar. I know this is gonna be a pisser but oh well. A shop wanted to charge me 1700 for everything lol ha ill just do it myself.

Cheers

Congrats on retirement. My uncle did the same two years ago.

This weekend I was doing quite a bit of yard work. Kept saying I’d jump in the pool after I finished X task. Guess what I never did?

Today I should get my parts to fix my steering system. I had to buy/barrow some tools. To get to the upper and lower ball joints on the knuckle you have to pull the axle... The seal is a vacuum seal that cannot be re used. In order to get it on properly you have to have the seal driver.... or something thats just as big. The seal driver weights about 40lbs. I doubt ill ever use it again but I have a few friends that have fords so im sure someone from my community might need it down the road. The ball joint press belongs to my friend. Hes never used it. Im stoked he has one so I didnt have to buy one. Most of my parts should show up on big brown today. Those include:
Track bar
Track bar ball joint
upper and lower ball joints x2
Outer tie rod
Inner tie rod
axle shaft seal x2

Hoping to get through this un eventful. The wife sounds like she's sick kids are staying home. Im going to get a jump on it this morning. Gonna pull the hubs then the axle. Ill pull the steering knuckling and press out the ball joints. That way when I do receive parts I'll be able to install. My buddy did his steering system a few yrs ago. Said im going to have a lot of fun... he was being sarcastic.

Friday was able to get a head start on my truck. The wife stayed home from work. My parts I ordered still hadn't show up yet. They were suppose to show up friday by the end of the day. Started off Jacking up the truck and pulling the Wheels off. Then the hubs came off. Just like I did a few months ago. Thats not a big deal taking them off. Pulling the axel out of the steering knuckle was a *****. At first I didnt think It would come out but then I just had to use a bigger pry bar. At this point is where things got difficult. I pulled the nuts off the ball joints but I couldn't get the knuckle to come off. Used a BFH and not much progress. Then I thought why not just smack the **** out of the exposed ball joint studs. Its not like I need the threads to be fine. Im replacing them. That was the trick. Once I got one side down to the knuckle I started on the other side to save time.

By mid afternoon still no parts. I had both knuckles off Now I need to press the ball joints out. I saw so many videos of dudes just smacking them out with a hammer.... I put some PB blaster on them and let them sit for a bit and soak.

lol how did you know?
I have 2 6.0s. '04 & '05. The '04 has nearly 300K on it, and is pretty rusty underneath. It's a driver/body donor for my original '05 with 150K which got smashed by a tree. Putting that engine back together currently. I had planned on just doing the top end with new KDD heads at my buddy's shop with the lift, but the tree changed all that.

The ball joint press that my friend let me barrow couldn't press them out. I thought my CP impact with my 60gal 150psi compressor would make short work with it. I couldn't even get them to move. This point I thought I was proper ****ed i was looking around my shop to see what I could use. Hey theres this big blue hydro press in the corner why not use it. Moved some **** around to get at it. Setting up the knuckle in the press was a challenge. I had to make sure theres enough clearance on the bottom to accommodate the vacuum ******. At this point still no parts its the end of the day and I have both ball joints out. Theres really not much else I can do without my parts. Called it a day and at 7pm my parts finally showed up. What do you know some of the parts that I ordered weren't correct. The upper ball joint that they sent me was wayyy too small and the axel seals weren't the right ones. Lucky for me ford opens at 7am on sat. I got up early took the wifes car and picked up the rest of the parts I needed. The ball joint press worked good on pressing into the knuckle.

Heat and lube are the friends of the ball joint press. Used to watch a guy do those ball joints all the time in the shop. Never looked like fun to me. And kinda makes me glad my truck is 2wd.

The axel seals are a pain in the *** to get on. There was a guy on youtube that put the axel in a vise and pressed it on smacking it with a BFH. I tried few times with no progress. Then I thought the press might be able to press them on. The trick was trying to get the press set up. The passenger side axel is longer and much hard to press. I was able to get it in the press but I damn near broke my foot. There were so many times I dropped those blue square pieces of steel. They weigh a ton. It put a good crack in my concrete. Another hard but was driving the seals into to the knuckle. Using a BFH and a bunch of smacks it went in but it was a fight. Not very fun. This point its almost noon on sat. I wanna get this done so I can get in the pool. The track bar gave me a fight. I couldn't get the holes to line up on the top of the track bar. I didnt think it was gonna go in. I took an old bolt the same size and drove it in from the back side with a hammer. It lined up good enough to get the bolt through. The bolt I think its a 30mm. Lucky for me I have a wrench and socket 30mm. The torque spec is 400ftlbs. My torque wrench doesn't go that high. The breaker bar with a cheater bar got them pretty close. After that the two tie rods went in easy. Just had to count the number of turns. All wrapped up Put the wheels back on and took it for a rip. steering seems to be better. Im gonna take it to the alignment shop tomorrow morning when they open. This am Im pretty sore but im happy that I was able to do this fix. I told my wife that I probably saved us 1000 - 1200 bucks doing this project myself. Having said that I dont really wanna do that again. Nor do I wanna work on my truck again.
Also found out I need new tires. My front driver has a small bulge in it. I think the tires are about 5 yrs old with about almost 50k on them. Im due for tires just dont wanna spend the money on them. I did score some money from my former employer on my way out the door. Closed my association accounts plus no retirement party *at work*. That comes pretty close to buying new tires. At the moment i have toyo AT open country. Id like to go with a MT either toyo or nittos. The nittos are probably cheaper. Ive had them before not too bad on the noise and they seemed to wear good.
Well thats it for now. Enjoy the weekend

Cheers

Ive never had much luck with heat. The times ive used heat I make a bigger mess or set myself back. Now Im too worried about getting stuff too hot so have a habit of not working. I have a few bottles of PB blaster. Thats the trick. The bolts / nuts Ive had issues with Id lube and let it sit for a bit. I used it every day for a week on my EGR bolts going into the manifold. Those have been know to break and be a pain to drill out and replace.

It was a city tree. Insurance gave me a fair amount for the truck. I pushed the roof back up with a floor jack, and drove it to a friend's property a few miles away for storage as we where in a state of flux for housing at the time. It drove just fine, but was a little breezy with no windshield.

PB/Liquid Wrench is OK, but what really works is 50/50 ATF acetone.

Are you located in so cal? It seems some city's dont give a **** about tree trimming / maintenance until it makes a big mess. When I drove for the FD I would hit trees all the time. Not much you can do about it.

Yessir. The city doesn't have a lot of money. Too many residents that don't pay property taxes. They cleaned it up pretty quick. A friend of ours that was staying in our RV had his Astro parked in front of the truck. Smashed that sucker good too. The city gave him fair market value.

The thing that pisses me off the most about that is I knew that tree was gonna fall someday, but didn't expect it to fall the way it did. The wind was blowing from the south that night which it almost never does.

Went to go meet up with a buddy for lunch this afternoon. I was about half way to the establishment when I forgot to bring his Ball joint press kit. So I took the freeway back to the house. Merged onto the freeway.... Horrible Death wobble. Luckily I got off at the next exit. Got to the shop grabbed the kit. Looked underneath everything looked fine. Figured Id just take back roads to lunch. I was almost there I got up to 55mph and it came back WTF! Made there and after lunch we inspected the front driver tire. Looks like the thing was ready to blow. It separated from the tread. I was pressed for time to go get my kids from school. Slowed made my way home got into the shop pulled my spare and replaced the tire. I put the spare in the back its not the same brand of tire but it seems like its sorta solved the death wobble issue at the moment.
I had just ordered tires Monday morning. I have a set of NItto Terra Grappler Mts on the way. Should show up tomorrow. Im hoping to get them installed soon as well as get an alignment. During the weekend when I pulled my front tires off I noticed the Drivers side front had a small bulge. It would roll straight. As much as I didnt wanna get new tires its time. Their six yrs old and have over 45k.
Also on a happy note I got the older boy in the shop yesterday. He wanted to do some wood work. Hes taking a wood shop class at school right now. He just wanted to practice before he started using tools.

My youngest comes out there and just drills holes in a 4x4. It gets him comfortable using tools so I let him do it.
Thats awesome, My kid doesn't like the sound of the power tools. Im trying to get him more comfortable but im just taking baby steps.

@sawduststeve thats awesome steve, Im sure your a better teacher than me when it comes to anything to do with wood. Ive never been really good with wood or carpentry. I can get but just know enough to be dangerous.

Death wobble is no fun! Had a couple bouts of it on my '13 a few years ago on I-81 on my way to NY at ~116k miles. Tie rod ends had some play, and that fixed it up. And just this spring I was feeling a knock in the steering while backing up into the driveway.. turns out the ball joint at the end of the track bar can get play in it, as well as the bushing on the frame side.. so I replaced the whole track bar @ 132k miles

The death wobble is common on live axle front ends in general. Could be any number of causes, but tires with odd wear are a big one.
Ive experienced this before. Just under 10k within the first yr of ownership I had death wobble issues. I went back and forth to the dealer 4 times. They didnt really wanna replace / fix things. They couldn't replicate it. Finally they replaced the steering stabilizer. After that it was fine. Ive driven the truck for the last few days. No more death wobble. i assume this time the issue is the tires.

@madison069 Had mine replaced early into my ownership. At first the dealer wouldn't replace it. It was out of spec but wasnt leaking in order to replace. Finally after going back and fourth they finally did the right thing.

@02Xterra I have no doubt that my ball joints, tie rods, track bar needed to be replaced. The truck has 135k on it. It had never been replaced. I dont wanna do that again. or if i do Im gonna have a lift next time.

Last night the wife an I were laying in bed and heard a loud noise. Went out side to find that our ash tree in the front yard had a branch that fell. It bent my fence and some of the tree landed in my neighbors yard. It gives me something to do today.

Sunday morning I spent about two hrs cleaning up the tree mess. Almost half the tree was in my neighbors yard. He had no idea that the branch had fell. He didnt mind me hooping his fence so I could buck up the tree. Today I have to call my tree guy. Hes got a boom truck with a bucket. This tree needs to be trimmed as well as my tree behind my shop. I cut would I could use for fire wood. The rest is small enough that I can put it in the green can. Its gonna take me a few weeks to get it disposed of. My buddy has a dump trailer that I could easily barrow and haul away to the dump but. I figured its just as easy to leave the **** where it is until I can find the room I need in my trash can.

While I was talking to my neighbor he informed that his cat had been killed. Last weekend some dirt bags up the street let their pit bulls out. I noticed one was in my yard. Lucky for me my family was inside at the time as well as my dog. I found a hole that it had dug under my fence. This weekend I filled it using my Kubota. I hope these dogs are going to be a problem. The neighbor mentioned that animal control had taken them to the pound. But unfortunately a last friday they escaped again. Nearly spending 3 hrs unattended. From midnight to 3ish. Didnt realize it has the time. Next time I see them Im gonna chat with them. I hope they're doing the right thing.

Its very nice having a Ring at the front of my property. Last Sunday this **** bird took it upon himself to check my mail box for mail that wasnt his. Lucky for him he didnt realize thats no mail delivery on sundays... and I dont leave mail in my box unless were on vacation. We were able to get his plate. Through the networks we found that hes very far from home. Plates are registered to an address in LA. I wish I could figure out how to post the video. The **** box that their driving sounded like it was on its last leg. Probably didnt make it back to LA. The next day a locking mail box showed up. The wife ordered. I spent about 2 hrs setting it up. The footprint of the new box is completely different than the old one. The stand on has two holes for bolts. I had to cut a section of steal, drill some holes to match the box and the points of attachment for the stand. I was trying to beat the heat and finish it in one day so it didnt interrupt our mail delivery. Its on there but any kid with a bat could knock it off. When its not so hot out ill replace the stand. Probably do it on a sunday.
Coming home from picking up kids, saw a header toward the north. That doesn't look like fun.

Stay cool

Cheers
