Today I measured the distance between my house and the fence, its 13ft. I should be good on that portion of the final inspection requirements. I think all im really gonna have to do is pour 25ft of concrete to make up the 150ft distance requirement.

Been busy with work lately. I haven't spent much time in the shop. The other day I had a few hours to kill. I figured Id install my Flat screen in the shop. Last week I scored a used flat screen for free. Bought a mount on amazon. At first I wasn't sure where to install. I had to move a few tool boxes and benches around. But I drilled into a steel stud and mounted the bracket there. I think it turned out ok.

Skipped the gym this morning. That gave me a bunch of time to get some stuff done in the shop. My knee has been bugging me so I decided I'd just do a little work around the shop. My Yj Jeep has been sitting for a while. I had the radiator cleaned. Installed the radiator and got it running. Then installation of a motion light sensor. I got tired of entering the shop and walking in the dark to turn the lights on. Next I continued my shelve project. Just ran out of lumber. Tomorrow Im gonna go get a couple of 4X4. Should be finished this weekend. And its beer thirty

I cancelled my Gym membership a few weeks before covid hit so cal. It was too much of a PIA to go. So I decided to build a home gym. I bought a adjustable weight bench and dumbbells. I went with boflex, they each weigh 90lbs. Ive been trying to keep working out lately but its been soooooo freaking hot. If i dont get to it in the morning Its too hot by the afternoon. The swamp cooler helps but it would be nice to have ac. Heres my set up.

I scored a bunch of Eucalyptus in the spring thanks to the wife. The local college she teaches at dropped about 20 huge eucalyptus trees. We only had a weekend to pick up the wood before they took it too the dump. I made about 6 trips with the f250.
In the process of bucking and loading wood I ran into a nice little feller. He had the same idea I did but he didnt think I had permission to be taking the wood. He changed his toon when he found out that my wife worked for the school.
Fast forward today I figured I start splitting all the biscuits just in time for winter. I pulled out the ol craftsman splitter and was able to finish up the pile in two days. We had nice weather so it wasn't that hot out.

Keeping up with the pool build I need to move my chicken coop away from the house. The one that they roost in right now is a pos. So i figured I'd build something better that would last a little while an add more space for more chickens. My boy an I set off to home depot at 7am and spent over 500 in tools and lumber. My wife was kinda shocked but I told her this coop will be a lot better. Heres some pictures of the project. Im not a carpenter and wood working isn't my forte.

The pool build is going to engineering. Should be done in a month or so. Then goes to the city. Installing a pool meant I need to move my utilities from my house to my shop. I could of paid someone to do it for 1300 bucks but I figured I could do it for wayyyyy cheaper. So I have to trench about 130ft of new trench then install 2 inch schedule 40 pvc pipe for the electric and then 3/4 inch pvc for water.
This morning I drove to my local tool rental place in town and picked up a trencher. I got a 24inch ditch witch. I've never used a trencher before but I figured it couldn't be that hard. I rented it for 3 hrs. I finished in about 2 hrs. I ran into a couple of things buried in the ground. A big rock, a concrete garden step, empty conduit and an old water line for sprinklers. My trench isn't as straight as I would like. The trencher seems to favor the right side. I did tip it over too.... one of the tracks got caught in the trench and dig down when I was moving it. That thing is f ing heavy, thank god for my wife she helped me get it back up right.
Hopefully I'll be able to finish this in the next couple of days.

Making some progress on the pool build. My retaining wall passed the pre inspection. Tomorrow I'll get concrete. Hopefully done next week. The inspector was cool. Older dude that said my contractor over built my wall. Which I wanted due to the pool. I was going to put a vinyl fence on top of the block wall but I was told by the inspector thats a no go, unless I want to pay an engineer to engineer it all.... I'll pass. The wife wasn't too happy but we ll figure it out.

A little update, My retaining wall is done and the final inspection is done. The retaining wall process wasn't too bad... other than paying 2 gs for the permit and having a inspector come 3 times... good ol city gotta make that money.
The wall was finished two weeks ago. Yesterday My pool contractor came and started digging the hole. I took some pictures after they finished up for the day. I had to go to work this am. Im told they should finish the hole today.

I hate PVC. This is my second attempt at making my water line to my shop/pool water tight... no leaks. I took my time used primer and glue. No leaks anywhere. I installed a water line into my shop. Dont judge me im not a plumber by any means....

Anything above ground I'd have made metal. UV makes PVC extremely brittle over time and you don't turn those 90* shut off valves often so it takes extra effort to turn them sometimes.
Otherwise, good work. ALWAYS use primer with glue on the constant pressure side of valves.

Thanks Dan, Im gonna throw some foam insulation over the exposed pipes. Its mostly state where the pvc runs out of the ground. Next time I'll use metal. The shut off valves are brand new and some times difficult to turn.
Quite a few updates. My wife an I won the battle with the city. The fire marshal came by and signed off my permit for the final inspection. I could tell he was pissed he tried to bust my balls about adding a knox box for my gate and told me that I hope you pave your drive way soon.

My kids are on spring break so we loaded up and went camping out at the river. The day before we left my best friend came over. He wanted to do an oil change and fuel filter. He said he had never done it on his new F230. Neither had I. Long story short we ran into a problem with the fuel filter on the motor. While my buddy was in the process of taking the fuel lines off the filter (this model has 3) one broke off. For about an hour we tried to just do a simple fix just to limp him home. That didnt work so he drove down to the local auto zone and got a few parts that seem to work as a new connection.

I acquired 3 gas cylinders from my mom. She had found them in my dads shed and wanted them gone. While on vacation I stopped by my moms house and found that these cylinders are exactly what I wanted.
The first one I found was 75%argon 25 c02. Im going to hook this up to my mig, NO MORE FLUX CORE!
The second set of cylinders were 02 and acetylene. Im going to upgrade my torch. I know these cylinders have gas in them. Im just not sure how much is left.
After A few welding projects I got tired of using my chop saw on the ground. So i made a stand for it with casters.

I bet I know which line broke on your buddies fuel filter. Had my guys doing a service on an ambulance last night and one of them walks into my office and asks, got one of these? I said take it off that decommed ambulance in the far bay, he comes back and says wrong year. New line gets ordered Monday.
Theres a billet kit you can buy. Im not very surprised by this flaw. It seems every yr has their issue.
I got stuck at work for a week straight. Ive been off for a few days trying to catch up around the house and was finally able to make it to my shop. While I was out and about I hit up tractor supply and found a solar lamp. I installed it above the door way to the shop. I wasn't expecting much out of it but damn it puts out a lot of light. I just ordered a couple more to put over my bay doors. I got tired of ally my wood and steel on the ground. I had an old cart that held o2 bottles. I welded some wire mesh on the bottom along with some casters. I used my torch to cut the mesh to fit perfectly on the under side of the cart. During the process of I ran out of welding wire. I had to wait a day till I could hit home depot and get some more mig wire. I bought a 12lb spool. I figured that would last a lot longer. When I ran out of wire I thought I had broke my mig welder. I didnt know that I had used that much wire in the last month. My wold/steel cart is on wheels so I can move it around my shop. One less mess. On to the next project.

I went and visited my mom in AZ. An old friend of my dads did some work on my jeep. I picked up a couple of things that were my dads that my mom wanted to get rid of. One being my dads old chainsaw box. I can remember being a kid and my dad always lugging that thing around when we cut up fire wood. I also found a pretty cool blade scabbard.
Also its starting to get warm in the shop had to fire up the swamp cooler

Good grief I still cannot believe the hassle the entire permit/inspection/process is/has caused you. We're building Mama Bear a new house and literally the ONLY inspection required and the only codes that HAVE to be followed are electrical. Which is really nice !!!

Finally we got some concrete for our pool. We were wayyyy over quoted but its nice to have it done. They did a ok job. I truly believe that no one will do better work on something that you own than you will. My wife an I are at the point we just want it done.... Lots of stress with work and family, this pool build is on the bag burner.
-They charged us for 150ft of drainage... I counted 105.... modesty
- I wanted more drains by the house.... they said they slopped the concrete to run toward the drain.
-no electrical outlets on the other side of the pool.
Over all im not super stoked about my contractor. I know hes super busy with a bunch of jobs but My wife an I are over all of the construction.
After all of that I built another c clamp holder....

Pool build is going very slow. It should have been done last month. I installed a triangle sail thingy over the patio to add more shade. After that I figured Id install my new parts for my wood boss Stihl chainsaw. I replaced the plastic cover over the sprocket, the sprocket, baring, eclamp.
I got tired of my ryobi tools not having a home. So I added a couple of brackets to hold my brad nailer and my blower.
My best friend grenaded his car. He towed it to my house. I offered up my truck so he could get home. A few days later it showed up on a flat bed.

I presume it was disabled.
Fire bowls for the pool showed up. The delivery driver almost screwed up and dropped of furniture instead of the bowls. We got it sorted out and got the bowls close to the pool on the fork lift.
Prior to that our patio/outdoor pool furniture got all screwed up. I guess nothing has really gone right with this build lol. I hooked up my flat bed and threw on about 5 big boxes of patio furniture to send back to home depot. The issue was the patio table were missing chairs. We received one box of two. Home depot isn't able to figure out where the second box is. The other issue was the one box was missing legs for the outdoor couch.... Home depot told us there was nothing they could do and it would be best to go to the builder. The wife contacted the builder and basically told us we sol. The return process was pretty easy. I just pulled up to the front and waited for the home depot employees to come un load the trailer.
After all that stuff I needed a cigar....

This is the fencing thats surrounds the pool. There are some things I like and others I dont. Later down the road I'll fix what I dont like. In the fall Im going to insert wood planks attach it to the iron fence. We passed our pre inspect for pebble tech. Maybe we ll get it tomorrow (Friday) that would be cool but I doubt it. This weekend the wife an I were suppose to be flying to vegas to see Rogan and UFC. But my son got sick and had an ER visit. Hes doing ok but wife didnt wanna be out of town with him not 100%.

I just finished up the extension of the chicken coop. The chickens were starting to outgrow their enclosure so I added 8 feet. I started in the shop. It was hot AF I had the swamp cooler going and built the frame. Once I was finished I had the wife help and carry it a few feet to the chicken coop area and put it in place. The shop is a wreck. Tomorrow im gonna clean the shop up an add thompsons sealer to the flatbed. After that I think ill have myself a cigar. Oh the fire bowls were installed this week. The pool guys finished the tile. We should be getting pebble this next week. The contractor still has some little things to fix but no big deal.

I finally got time to clean up my shop. Wife an I drove to Rancho to drop my truck off to get some maintenance done. I had a coolant leak that I couldn't find. Somewhere on top of the motor. Come to find out that it was a coolant line to the turbo. I looked pretty hard to find it, oh well. After the truck was dropped off we had a few beers. With the kids back in school theres plenty of time for activities. I got tired of my spare tires laying on the ground in the shop. I had some scrap angle iron and decided to build a tire swing.

I had some down time the last couple of days. A few yrs back I found an old steel bottle in the dumpster at work. I took it home and left it alone for a while. Fast forward today I finally got the valve off with a pipe wrench and long crescent wrench. Im gonna make some yard art out of it. While I was welding on the bottle (empty) i was having a hard time seeing due to the lack of lighting. 5 dollar head lamp and some velcro fixed the problem. Having my truck back from the shop I was able to get to home depot and spend some money. I wanted a little cordless angle grinder that I can use to cut little pieces of steel. Come to find out the ryobi angle grinder doesn't recommend the thin cut blades, not to mention the blade doesn't fit. Theres a gab in-between the arbor and the blade. The plan was to put it back in the box and return it but I've seen ppl on line using the same grinder to cut steel. Google search fixed it recommending to flip the arbor.
I picked up a little 33 gal trash can that im converting into a chicken feeder. We have ten chickens and they tend to make a mess with their food. Not to mention all the other free loaders the steal it. I hope this will fix the issue.

The last few days I started digging a trench for my drains. The concrete guys installed drains but it didnt drain anywhere. They were suppose to make it drain out of the pool area, but since they do awesome work... i decided to do it myself. The dirt was pretty hard in some places. Id have to wet the ground wait an hour and extend the trench. The reason Im doing it by hand is there are soooo many pipes running around the pool equipment I didnt wanna risk hitting one with a trencher. Also my neighbors tree was making a mess in my pool so I figured Id help them out and cut all the branches that were over my fence. I doubt I'll finish the trench today maybe next week when i get back from work.
