Hey all so the time has come to move on from turning wrenches for a living. I'm selling my mac box to another tech at work and moving all my tools home into the old 40" husky stack, 26" craftsman and hf 5 drawer for now. I love the mac box and wanted to keep it for when I get my shop built but space is pretty tight right now. When I was offered what I paid for it I figured I might as well take the deal and buy something new when I have the room (plus some extra money in the shop budget)
I'm looking at fifty something inches wide by 22+ deep. Bottom only for now. I plan to use it for my automotive tools and the husky for household stuff. I've been really impressed with my hf carts & always liked the 56 besides not having a full length top drawer. I also like that they're expandable. I've posted several times about what a pos my husky is when responding to questions like this but their new line looks much nicer. Does anyone have experience with them? Same question about the international boxes that are rebranded for husky, craftsman...

I'm also open to other suggestions. I'm hoping to stay in the $800 or less range.

I'd look around at Sears Outlets. Most of them of blowing out their Industrial line for more than 1/2 off. I think they have a 54" bottom in this line. I believe they are just shy of 21" deep.

Great box if you can find it on sale.

I'll keep an eye on Sears outlet. I didn't see anything but it's always different and I won't be buying for a while. I have at least 2 months till I can start the shop due to weather.

I bought this one at Home Depot this morning. 52" was $698.00 on sale for 498. and she gave me 50 off for getting an HD card I'll never use. Then she gave me a $25.00 off a 25 or over purchase. Now that was a smokin deal.

My buddy bought that same Husky set up last January for $498. It's a hell of a lot of box for the money. The drawers are decently deep too. One pet peeve of the 40" HF boxes. Looks good!

Thanks for all the replies. That 60" husky is the one I'm most interested in. I like the 18 drawer set also but don't think I could go back to 18" deep after having a 25". When you're able to put things front to back it's very convenient. I also like the idea of having work space on the top. Besides past experience the one thing that worries me about the huskys & international is the single set of slides on the top drawer.

perhaps reconsideration of keeping vs parting with your MAC is not a bad idea.

Check out the Milwaukee boxes at Home Depot. Very satisfied with the value.

Worth noting that the new all-black textured finish Husky boxes are made by the same oem (CSPS industries) as the Milwaukee boxes. When you see them side by side in the store the similarities are apparent, though they each do have their own different bells and whistles.

Sounds like your used to a professional box, I doubt you will be happy with any big box store brand....

Or you could sell the Mac and spend the money on a toolbox from Strictly Toolboxes.

I don't know how much you spent on the Mac, but I'd bet you could get a comparable box at a fraction of the cost from ST.

I'd keep your Mac box if it's already payed for. Any of the big box brands will be a disappointment.

Contact fatfillup (fellow GJ member). He's nearby to you and sells lots of used truck toolboxes for very reasonable prices. See what he can do for you.

A used Snap On KR 560 or 660 would work for what you want and the price may fit in your range too.

If in Your shoes, I would keep the Mac and sell the smaller boxes instead.. I get a cold feeling when thinking about selling a tool box that I actually like.. There is a difference between a box that You actually like and others that simply hold tools.. There are very few that I actually like.

Ok so I'll do my best to address everything. I paid 1700 & it's a 66" 1080. After the boxes I had before it a big reason I chose it was the shallow height drawers but in reality I had to leave some empty because I needed more depth so I'm kind of excited find one that suits my needs better. Also I honestly think that level of quality was a little overkill for me. I probably opened the drawers of my hf cart 10 times as much and it's held up pretty well. I'd be perfectly happy with one of their 56" ones but I would prefer a full length top drawer. That's not a deal breaker but is a good reason to check out other options. I just saw the 60" Milwaukee in person today & was impressed with the build quality but not a big fan of the configuration. Good to have confirmation that the huskys are made by the same people. I have looked at stb & specifically the gator builts. I'd definitely consider them if there was a sale or scratch & dent. I don't think I can sell the wife on spending all that on another box. That was really my motivation to keep the mac.

I agree and I'll still be with the same company just selling instead. The company is great but I'm just tired of hot summers and being sore all the time. Getting old I guess.

Check out the new Craftsman pro series boxes. They are VERY nice and have 200lb drawer slides and are 21" deep I believe. They are very tall though. I think the 41" bottom is in your price range and I think on sale right now. Well it was sunday when I was in sears. Im trying to get a link and the Sears site is virtually worthless. I typed in 41" pro series tool chest and the tool box and got truck boxes and all kinds of other stuff

Ok here is the bundle. Top and bottom
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-pro-...lerId=Sears&prdNo=14&blockNo=14&blockType=G14
Here is the 52" which is the one I really want but have not seen them in stores yet
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-pro-...SellerId=Sears&prdNo=9&blockNo=9&blockType=G9
And here is the 41" bottom @819.99 If you have any points then it could be had cheaper.
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-pro-...lerId=Sears&prdNo=45&blockNo=45&blockType=G45

I have seen these in stores and they are no joke. They seem VERY well built and solid. Little to no drawer side to side wobble. And USA made. The drawer pulls are superior to most other home owner boxes, except masterforce at Menards. Snap On uses this drawer pull system on their Epiq series box which is their most expensive. I know I will get **** from the HF tool box mafia but sorry these are better built and the price does reflect that. You can also get 5% off if you use a Sears card and I think 90 days interest free. So something else to ponder

The new all-black textured paint Huskys are pretty nice. They're made with a little bit thicker gauge steel than the previous chrome handled Husky boxes and have soft close drawer slides, among other improvements.

For example, here's a 60 in. wide 24 in. deep workbench with wood top for $700.

This was going to be my exact suggestion. I'm eyeing this bench to replace a wooden "table" in my shop.

Note they claim 19ga which is actually excellent compared most of Husky's offerings at 21ga

According to Stu's comparo at Toolguyd the Milwaukee is 22" deep, so 2" less than the similar husky.

Has anyone actually SEEN the supposed upcoming DeWalt? It looks to be even wider than 60". I hate DeWalt but depending upon price I'd consider it & just remove the stickers :D

Just looked for some info on the big dewalt. All I could find is a picture on toolguyd. The 2 rows of skinny drawers next to each other messes with my ocd but besides that I like the layout. If the dimensions and price are right it could be a competitor. Assuming it's available.

Hey if you can live with a scratch and dent you might want to REALLY check out Strictly tool boxes. If I needed a new box I would be looking here really hard.

Are these listings a regular thing or is this a one time thing? The 55x30 extreme is probably my top choice of any box available so I'd definitely go a little over budget for one of them.

Either go all out for your extreme or go for low cost HF.
HF is great option at lowest of low sale prices/coupons, wouldn't want pay near full price though as leaves a bitter feeling and you better off going for what really want ... 72" HF probably best long term option as got long drawer,18ga steel and massive storage plus 22" depth which reasonable .
Not buying what like or fits your storage needs tends end in buying twice so wastes money and time. Extreme would hold better resale value and likely last you decades, HF may too but needs more owner care but you won't love it the same .

i'd keep what i already have.
you may found out that moving to something smaller, you'll be out of storage space, then end up playing musical toolboxes until you find something with adequate space.

make room for it in the garage.

a few years ago, i sold a couple of my boxes after i moved back into a service truck
i'm still kicking myself.
if i ever have to back to working in a shop again, i dont have the storage space i need for all my "working tools"

Those new Craftsman boxes look great! It is a real shame (and very sad) that Sears is closing stores at the same rate Harbor Freight is opening new ones.

That looks nice!
Though I'm having trouble finding drawer dimensions, as well as a review from anyone that has actually seen/tested them.
