Deep sockets for spark plugs

How many of you use normal deep sockets for spark plugs as opposed to spark plug sockets with special retention?

I can't seem to find any manufacturer that offer spark plug sockets in all sizes. Most American manufacturers offer 5/8, 3/4 and 13/16, while European manufactures offer 16mm and 21mm options. Here and there you find somebody that also does a 18mm or 14 mm, but nobody that does the whole line.

So I though I'd just get all sizes in normal deep and punch rubber washers for retention to insert. Anybody else do this.

Oh, and yes, I'm **** about not mixing different brands/types for the same set.

i almost always use just a regular SP socket. i say almost always because there have been times that a SP socket just would work because of clearance. have undo them carefully with a regular socket and fish them out with a magnet.

From Ford and GM to BMW and VW to Toyota and Infiniti, I count on Gearwrench magnetic spark plug sockets. Haven't found a non-fit with just three pieces yet.

Thanks guys. Seems like they do everything except the 19mm (3/4) I need for my B&S lawnmower!

Monte, I'm so used to checking out the local Gedore catalogue, I was not aware that the Germans make all those SP sizes. Here we only get 16mm and 21mm.

Snap-on do 14mm (9/16"), 5/8" (16mm), 18mm, 3/4" (19mm), 13/16" (21mm) and 7/8" (22mm).

Unless you specifially want sockets in metric and imperial, despite some being crossover sizes.

I have spark plug sockets in both 5/8" and 13/16". If any other size plugs exist, I don't have them and don't want them, so I'm good here.

What, you guys don't have any of the infamous Ford 4.6 or 5.4 engines with the 9/16 triton plugs? You guys should feel cheated. Make you buy the broken plug repair kits with your new plug sockets.

I love magnetic spark plug sockets.

Piece of hose works very well for dropping in and out.

Someone told me they have a specialty ford tool at the dealerships that is for these that are very pricy. I looked on Tooltopia and they have specialty sockets for around $8 for these motors.

Thanks for all the info! Seems that normal deep sockets are being used commonly for SP and that will be the way to go for me.
