i was just thinkin. other than a few sizes 18mm 3/4 13/16 7/8 15/16 36mm. i don't much at all use deep sockets. i don't even have a set of metric deep 1/2 drive impacts. the metric 3/8 deep impacts that i use all the time, are almost never used for deep applications.

I use deep impacts more than shallow. Actually I use deep quite a bit on cars where the fastener protrudes past the nut quite a bit.

I will sometimes use a deep socket in place of a shallow socket and short extension.

I haven't even bothered buying a shallow metric impact set, I've got deep SAE but I can count on one hand how many times I've used them.

I hardly use a shallow unless there is a clearance issue

+1 i actually prefer semi-deep about 90% of the time with the other 10 split between swivels and deeps. i almost never use shallows. i find it easier to ensure the socket is square on the fastener the longer it is - any misalignment is more easily visible before squeezing the trigger and rounding something off...

I just replaced a broken drivers side mirror on a 2000 Grand Marquis. I used a Snap-on 1/4 inch 11mm deep socket to remove and reinstall the three nuts in the door that hold the mirror. It basically would have been impossible the do the job without that socket.

Better to have and never need, than need and never have......of course this does not apply to money when you spend it on tools!:lol_hitti

Only use deeps when I have to and I usually grab a wrench instead. Never liked the feel of them compared to the short guys.

i use my metric 1/2d shallows ALL THE TIME.

the reason i brought this up. i was looking at the HF flier. and thought i'd get me some deeps. then i thought = hey, you don't ever need them. so why buy em.

at my shop. if you only use a tool a few times a year, others that have that tool don't mind lending it out.

i use deeps almost exclusively; i have shallows in 1/4 and 3/8 but i only use shallows when i cant find the deep or when clearance is an issue
the fasteners i need to get at would need an extension with a shallow; so i just grab a deep

I use shallow most of the time but I use a deep when I would just use a 1" extension or something. Mainly use deep to ****** pans, small engine heads, lawnmower blades that kinda stuff.
