Deep Well, installing shut off valve before pressure switch.

I was on the interweb trying to learn a little about deep well cycle stop valves, as I was looking at photos of various installation jobs I noticed a lot of setups have their main shut off valves before (upstream) the pressure switch, isn't this a bad thing to have?

I would think, if someone closed the shutoff and didn't turn the electric to the pump off, the pump would either burn itself out or burst a pipe when a downstream tap was opened.

Yes the ignorant will cause problems if they don't know what they are doing. Just like a lot of things a little knowledge can get you into trouble.

I can understand why they would have valves on both sides so that the pressure switch could be isolated and serviced/replaced. But it would let you burn up the pump if it was closed without turning the electricity off.

I have a buddy that put in a csv he loves it.

They sound great but I have read a few posts that warned against them.

Not sure what to believe now. Most of the csv info was from the main company that sells them.

So for now I havent replaced my way to small a pressure tank.
