Deep well surface mounted pump

My sister had a deep well surface mounted pump and pressure tank replaced recently with what is called a convertable pump. Since then it has disconnected a few times requiring to reset it to again operate. It appears to usually go out when using the outside hose at full capacity. This pump serves the house needs plus a few outside faucets. I believe the pump installed is the same horsepower as the old pump. This is not an extremely deep well. Does anyone know the possible cause. Thanks. joefbeams

Not much to go on here, but I will offer a guess.

Assuming your “convertible” pump is a jet pump with the option to put the jet down the well or attached to the motor,
and assuming you have it on the motor,
you need some back pressure for the jet to work.

You should have a gate valve between the jet and the tank so you can restrict the flow.

It takes some experimentation, but you cannot just let the pump run free.
You have to “throttle it back a bit.”

When the pump was replaced was the pressure switch also replaced and was that new switch a low pressure cutoff type that will shut down the system when the pressure gets to low? Sounds like that could be a cause. Try restricting the flow and see if it works. Also you can run full open and see if the pumps shuts down when the pressure drops to about 20psi.
