I built a 30x48 post frame in March. Haven't got it insulated or heated yet. One of the things my wife said when I decided to build it was, good you can put all your deer heads out there and get them out of the front room. I would like to have them out there but not sure about having them in an unheated area. I want to finish the one end wall and put them up. So does anyone know if freezing temps. Will harm them or should I wait till I get heat?

Put my deer mount out in my unheated garage and now it's in the dump. It started coming apart. It was a beauty too from 1930's. I didn't notice it till it was too fqar gone. Took a year for the damage to be noticed.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I think your garage is going to be nice. I like the size. What maybe, 30x60?

Very nice! My garage is 30 X 40 X 10 in size with R-19 in the walls and open ceiling and it hasn't been down to freezing inside yet in 2 years without heat. The next few nights will be in the teens, but I still have a lower section of insulation missing on one wall where I'm running some gas line, so once it's covered, it'll be even warmer. You may want to wait to move the heads.

I have some mounted heads in my unheated garage. They get dirtier in the garage than they would in a cleaner place, but the temperature change hasn't seemed to hurt them.

You should call a taxidermist , but I would never do it. The grindings and dust would be hard on them as well.

If you do you need to have tubing hooked up so some vapor comes out of their nostrils every once in a while... Would be a real hoot for visitors.

Um,yeah, jake... That one isn't dead yet.. I just saw it breathe!
