Hey everyone.
I am helping a friend build his new shop & we thought we would bring you all along for the adventure. We both work full time jobs in operations for a pretty good sized trucking company so most of the work on this project will be done on weekends.

The building is 2584 sq. ft. on the first floor which includes an 8'x18' storage area, an 8'x10' bathroom, a 10'x28' work area, & the 2080 sq. ft. open area. It also has an 18'x48' living space on the second floor (attic truss).

We started framing 3 weeks ago & have the majority of the walls up. Trusses should be here in a week or two.

The previous owner of the land called it Deer Valley because of the many whitetail deer that call the area home. This inspired the name...Deer Valley Lodge.

Attaching a picture of the truss plan so you can get an idea of what the building will look like. Will add pictures of the progress to date shortly.

I think we need some pictures of this place. Having a large living area, along with a big bathroom, is your buddy going to live there or just hang out ?

I believe the plans for the living area upstairs in the near future, is to have a place for his daughters to stay when they come back from college. It will have a bedroom with a closet, a small kitchenette, a entry area closet, with the remainder of the space being open for family room -dining area.

Trussed arrived last Wednesday. Set the majority of them this weekend. Couple pictures from the bucket on the crane that set the 40 footers in place for us. The first picture is from 60 ft. in the air.

After a couple rain delays & the fact that this thing has one whole lot of roof, I am very happy to say that we finished getting it ready for the roofers yesterday:rocker:. They started this morning & will finish today if the rain holds off.

And a picture from the inside. Bellering Bessie in the background. She was very handy but will not be needed any longer. Sure wont miss the noise!!

Little more gable end sheathing, soffit & fascia, stairwell walls, & stairs will be completed this weekend if all the stars are in alignment. Sure something will mess that master plan up??

Windows & doors should be here on 11-20.

Subscribed...absolutely love it. My retirement goal is to build something like this in the mountains with a view and very little yard, like a big circle driveway and a weedwhacker for upkeep. Looking forward to seeing this finished.

Doors, window, & the Azek trim are finally here. Stairs are done & about 95% of the soffit & fascia. Need to get a man lift to get the last of it which will probably be done at the same time as the trim & siding.

Didn't install the upstairs window so we can get the drywall in but the rest of the windows and doors are installed.

Shot of the stairs & the room upstairs.

First off....Welcome to Garage Journal.

Second off....DAMN!!!!!!!!!! Nice shop, garage, mancave, hangout, whatever you want to call it. Beautiful setting and one fantastic building.

So, once it's all done, everyone is going to be working overtime at the shop and not going home

The weather here in Wisconsin this Winter has not been good for building so there has been very little progress over the last couple months. The plumbing & electrical rough ins are complete & part of the insulation has been installed. Got some more of the siding & trim installed this last weekend as well. Looks like the weather is coming around so we should be able to keep at it?

Man that's going to be some great space though! I'd pour that driveway with it being a regulation sized half court for some bball.

That is beautiful!
I might go off and work in my own pathetic little shed for a while... until I feel better. :)

The entire driveway as well as the area under the porch will be poured this Spring....if Spring ever gets here.

Insulating is complete so we are ready for drywall. Hoping to have that complete in the next couple weeks.

The Azek trim & siding is about 1/2 done. Hope to have it finished in the next couple weeks as well.

Appreciate the comments!

Looking good, make sure you keep taking pictures.

By chance, being a "lodge", is it getting a wood stove ?

Thanks NUTTSGT. Will try to add updated pictures today.

Wood stove would be a nice touch but the in-floor heat will be a bit more efficient & lot less work.

Still trying to get the last of the siding up. Been too muddy to get the man lift in lately. Will try again this weekend.

The drywall is all hung. Finishers should start this week.

Picture is a little dark & the floor is little dirty.

Picture from bedroom looking out. Half wall by the stairwell in the background. Cabinets for kitchenette will go there. Fridge on right of that wall.

Didn't get a picture of the front but we did get the upstairs window in & have the siding done about 1/2 way up the window. Will finish it with the lift.

We were finally able to get the lift in but ran out of day before we could finish all the siding. Should be able to finish it in about a 1/2 day next weekend.

View of the roof from the lift. Lot of roof area.

Drywall should be finished this week. Electrical fixtures going in next weekend.
