Defected Snap on Battery

Hello

I purchased a Snap On 18v 1/2" Impact gun (CT6850) 2 years ago.

It came with one 18V Lithium Ion Batt (CTB6185)

I have used this gun maybe five times and the battery is intermittent. It shows full but when you pull the trigger nothing happens about 50% of the time?

I have read on other forum's that these batteries had a defect.

I emailed Snap on and they wanted a serial #, It is printed on the battery and mine had worn off the first time I wiped it off with a solvent to clean grease. They said it was past the 2 year warranty by one day! and without the serial#, I have nothing!

My Question is? Is there a replacement, I dont want to buy the same defected battery as a replacement? I read the (CTB 6187) would work, but at $235!!! Maybe I should have just bought the DeWalt!!! Very disappointed with Snap On right now.

Yes.. I think if you have only used the Impact 5 times in 2 years, You probably would be better served with a cheaper model. I have no knowledge of a battery issue, But Im not in the loop in regards to snap on cordless tools. How did you store the battery over the 2 year span? Constant Charge? Sat Idle and charged when needed?

The serial number was worn off but they still knew it was out of warranty? Also, Snap-on cordless tools have a 1 year warranty

I Bought it through my on line government account, so I dont have a driver to take it to.

I would just Charge it when needed. And the rest of the time it would be disconnected in the case.

If you have a government account, you should get a better price than $235 for the battery.

If your Initial Correspondence was prior to the 2 year warranty expiration and you had to have more time to provide a receipt, I would think they would still honor the warranty if the dates checked out. Do you not have some sort of Government Snap on Representative/Dealer?

Now I understand, I thought you meant by the title, that your battery had left the country and sought asylum elsewhere.

I Do get a better price.. But even Half of $235 is alot for a gun I have used so little! I would expect this if it was 5yrs old or used daily?

Why not trade it in as is a get a Milwaukee since you use it so infrequently. They will offer a better warranty and sold thru most so dealers aswell or try ir impact but dewalt will not have the same power you might be looking for

do you have a different battery that is good to make sure its not the charger or impact that is bad? i have a blue point ratchet that i thought had a bad battery but it ended up being a bad trigger switch on the ratchet. call snap on and ask for the repair centers phone number and talk to someone there. they might be able to help you.

If you only used the impact 5 times in 2 years then I don't think a cordless impact is the right choice for you.

The li-ion first gen batteries had that issue. Some of them would cut out. It was an issue with the diode that kept the battery from fully discharging. They should replace it for u if its actually within the 2 yr period. By the way its a well known issue. So they know whats wrong and they are probably just dodging you.

Aside from the jokes in this post nothing seems to be adding up. And why does this guy have a gov account I feel like in dealing with a helpless child when I read his posts.

Op, tell snap on it wasnt out of warranty when the claim was being made. Serial numbers are important it helps track the item to the original point of purchase. Brake cleaner is not good for cleaning delicate things. A gun that was used five times you should have noticed a battery issue a lot sooner or its been sitting in a destructive environment like the cold or on charge for the last six months.

Your posts all seem to give me a sense of something fishy. How much of what you said so fat is a stretch of the truth.

I wanted a cordless because I pull trailers. Its handy when you dont always have access to compresses air, stubborn lug nuts, Ect....
