Deformable led lights?

I’m looking to upgrade the lighting in my 30x50 shop with 10’ ceilings. I’ve got a few of the 4’ t8 style hanging lamps above my workbench area but the remainder of the shop is lit with std screw in 60 watt bulbs. I was looking to do more 4’ lamps and stumbled on these. Have any of you utilized these types of lights in you shop/garages to get a little more light added by just screwing in a bulb?

Those things would add more light for sure.

But another option is if you have the screw in bulb fixtures already in the ceiling, and you want to install 4 foot, two bulb LED "shop light" type fixtures, is you can replace the screw in bulbs with screw in socket adapters, and then plug the 4 foot LED shop lights into that.

Most of the 4 foot shop light fixtures have 5 or 6 foot long cords, and can be attached to the ceiling via hanging chains, which allows you to place the lights pretty much where ever you want.

This is that I have done in my garage and basement. There were only a few screw in light fixtures in the ceilings of both the garage and basement. So I replaced the screw in bulbs with screw in socket adapters, and installed 4 foot LED shop lights at each location.

This gave me way more light, was easy to do, and still let me use the light switches to turn everything on and off.

If you convert the lights to an outlet via the adapter it would require GFI protection.

Seems expensive, that bulb costs more than a T8 fixture with two LED tubes. If advertised lumens is accurate it will output more light but it will be a very bright point lighting. T8 LED fixtures will distribute light better with fewer and less pronounced shadows, at a lower cost.

Good input, I know I have gfi outlets but not sure offhand if they’re on the same circuit as the lights. Something for me to check. If I need to add gfi at the socket it’s probably time to call a pro. I’ve been wanting to get a 30amp outlet added outside for the camper anyway.

It doesn't make any difference, because the adapters are 2 wire and have no option for the required ground.

Got it, thanks. I see that Falcon posted an option that would replace the entire light socket with one that would include a 3 wire plug in. Would this circuit require GFI protection as well?

Forget the porcelain socket thing unless you need a light bulb there. Use this duplex outlet in an octagon box.

I just grabbed an image off Amazon, but these are available all day long at Home depot and most any hardware store.

If you replace an Edison bulb screw in light fixture with a receptacle, doesn't the new receptacle have to be GFCI in the ceiling as well? If not, and the GFCI is not required, then why wouldn't the screw in two prong female outlet work with the plug adapters that take out the ground?

Yes, the receptacle would need to be GFI protected and accessible and not with a ladder.
There are 2 ways of doing this, with either a GFI breaker or a blank face (with no receptacle slots) GFI mounted on the wall ahead of the receptacle(s).

I just bought one of deformable LED light for the attached garage. I really, really like it. Two car attached garage with a single light bulb in the middle of the garage. This device gives lots of lights without a ton of work.
