I have an air compressor that was sitting in my garage when I moved in.
It has a Quincy X8-55 Compressor, and a Delco 1hp Motor.
The motor has a hard time starting, sits and hums, even with no pressure in the tank... If I disconnect power, rotate the compressor a bit, then re-apply power, it starts right up and runs to the 100 PSI cutoff. turning the compressor is not difficult by hand. I just cannot find any info on this motor to see what starting cap is used etc...
Model is A-8886
Serial K-61
182 frame
Type CS
115/230V
1hp
1725 RPM.
Attached is a pic of the label.
Any info appreciated!

Blown start cap I'd say, pull out the cap and see what size it is(might be 2 in there) and get a new one, much cheaper than a motor.

Got around to openimg things up... side cover plate and rear cover plate removed, and there is no capacitor under either one. Side cover just has tje side of the stator under it, and the rear has the plastic terminal block for power and low/high voltage connections.
I assumed a type CS motor was capacitive start... am I missing something?
