I got a 13 inch Rockwell Delta planer @ auction locally. Model is a 13 series 22-401. I downloaded a manual for it and the publication date was 1970 so this thing is 40 years or so old. Its a 3 phase or single phase motor currently wired as a single. The whole thing weighs over 400 lbs. I picked it up for about $370 which felt good compared to what the Dewalt table top planers go for. The guys @ the Board of education warehouse said it was in the local high school shop and still worked great when removed.

Did I do well or did I pick up a boat anchor ?

Plans are to clean it up and put it to work on some rough cut walnut that was in the barn when I bought the property. I plan to make kitchen cabinets out of the walnut. The walnut was from a lightning strike tree on the property. There is a soapstone quarry close by and I intend to use that for a counter top. So I have high hopes for this old machine...

it is currently wired as 3 phase but can be wired as single phase

Whoever said that has NO CLUE!

If it really is 3 PH (and assuming you don't have 3 PH) you will need to get a VFD or other phase adapter, or swap motors out; so you need to add that cost into your (is it a good deal" thoughts.
