Looks a peach. I'm sure it would be fine as much of the design looks similar to non vari speeds. Probably just a Reeeves drive.

I have a 17" that looks from the same era that is a great machine.

Go over all the Reeves drive components with a fine tooth comb. They can be very expensive and very hard to find.
Agreed. Turn it on and cycle it several times thru the speed range to see if it runs smoothly. I am less worried about belt squeal, after finding Powermatic's recommended fix of rubbing paraffin wax on the belt edges to quiet it.

Thanks for the tip! My Wilton (USA) drill press has a Reeves style drive. It's not as noisy as the Clausing DP I had at work, but it would be nice if it were quieter.
