Hello, after three trips to the belt supplier, I have this figured out.
Problem: my Delta 17-900 16 1/2" 12 speed chinese drill press ruins its belts.
This model number has 3 versions, USA I think, Taiwan and China. I found pictures of one from 1995 and it was Taiwan. Mine is 1999 and it is China. Mine is 250 to 3000 rpm. All have the same belt set number listed as 1312030, which includes 1/2" belts in A25.5 and A27 sizes. The smaller belt goes on the motor end, and the longer one goes on the quill end. These belts do not fit all the way in the pulley grooves on mine and eventually will delaminate.
I think this drill press was sold under other brand names and they might have used the metric M26 and M27 10mm belts, but I now have a 3L260 and a 3L270 and the fit in the grooves and the motor adjustment will accommodate all the different belt and pulley combinations.
An alternate choice might be 15 series automotive belts using 15255 and 15265 belts, but I have not actually tried these.
I hope this helps someone else out there as I saw in the Delta belt reviews that other people have a belt delamination problem with this drill press.
