Delta 20" Drill press Spindle Help

I can't figure out whether the spindle on my drill press is just extra long or has an extender on it.
I pulled the chuck w/ taper out and was hoping to take what I thought was the extension off and then put the chuck back on without the extension but I'm not sure that even is an extension or not.
Tried tapping it out with steel bar through the wedge slot but don't want to bend the spindle.

Does anyone know if this is an adapter that can be removed?

Goggle model number see if manual pops up. If not go to OWWM.org and join which it cost nothing but tons of information. Post your questions as long as it’s about American made tools

Supposed to be like that

Yes, No, Maybe. Delta had several different spindles for their DPs. It appears you have the Morse taper unit with the male MT adapter to use the chuck. Adding this will make the spindle even longer, magnifies any runout and puts the drill point too far from the bearings.

Personally, I prefer the JT33 spindle which mounts the chuck directly under the bearings. Start watching eBay, OMMM and craigslist.

For a 20" that's normal.

It would be nice if we knew the exact model, as we just sent out all our crystal balls for cleaning/recalibration as a group.
It is a 70-330. Can't find any info on this exact model but alot of general 20" info is out there.

So apparently, one can interchange those spindles?

My hope is to reduce the overall length so I can raise the table higher. Right now the spindle sticks down about 6" plus the 3/4" chuck is another 4 or 5 inches, and then ofcourse the drill bit length.

Its something I can work with but wanted to see if anyone knew if this is removable.
Looking at parts diagrams it isn't clear if this is THE spindle or just an adapter in the spindle.
