So let me start off by saying that one of my hobbies, aside from woodworking is to flip tools.
So, I have owned a delta 22-540 planer for a couple of years already and am pleased with it. I do get some snipe sometimes, but I know that's due to my in/outfeed tables requiring adjustments. I've recently acquired a 22-580 originally with the intent to sell, but does require a little tlc. So my question is; is the 22-580 much if at all better than the 22-540? Would it be worth keeping and fine tuning it to replace the 22-540? Thanks in advance.

I have an older Delta Planer that still works very well. But...... the knives became obsolete. I was lucky to grab one set for eventual replacement and I count myself lucky. Delta hasn’t always been good about service after the sale.
It’s tough to predict but the future needs are something to consider if upgrading. I would upgrade with mine if a deal came along for that reason alone. Craftsman power tools used to have many subcontractors (Delta, Porter Cable,....etc) so it became a bear trying to locate repair replacements. A company’s willingness to support their products “indefinitely” makes rhe decision for me.
