Hi all

My mechanical rebuild or more accurately assembly from parts continues. I'm inspired by the restorations on this site but want to see and hear it run before I get out the paint and brushes.

The drill press has a wound spring on the left side (looking from the front). I'm guessing it is to hold the quill in the "up" position but no matter which way I wind the spring the quill drops to the bottom, is there a trick to installing the spring?

Thanks for any help you can provide.
Best wishes
Steve

Check out my rebuild thread here. I bought one off eBay due to an indication on the original. I still have the original and it still works. If you can not get it to wind I would guess it already broke. Shouldn’t be too hard to find a replacement. There are plenty of diagrams on OWWM available and Accurate Bearing out of Texas had new bearings available. Good luck!

Thanks you both, that is the part, I never would have thought to look on amazon but they have new ones available (2 1/8 inch return spring).

Thanks again!
