AFAIK your 17-inch IS a DP-600. I think it will kick everything else out the door.
They're the Corvette. The Powermatic 3 phase is the is an Olds 442 :) You can really fine tune either one like fr did. I need a foot press control like that.

I like Powermatic as well, but they are not as readily available as DP-600's, and tend to be vastly more expensive. Delta is much better value. When I retire I will dump my DP-600 and keep my Wilton (USA) VS 15 drill press. Not as heavy as the Delta, but similar stroke and much better production table.

I've done a bit of research on VFD and it seems pretty straight forward. I had no idea how much control you can have over these 3 phase motors, and without spending a fortune. The old switches for the motor should cover the cost of a nice, like new VFD made in the US.

I have a couple leads on a replacement spindle and hopefully next week everything will fall in to place and I can put it all together.

One thing I really want to find is a production table with T slots. I would hate to put holes in this table but I don't see any other way to hold a vise.

It's almost all together after spending a bunch on parts. It is nice that almost everything is available if you need it though. Only issue at the moment is the quill hangs up on the head in a few spots so I need to smooth that out. I do have another one I can test.

Oh, anyone know off hand what the thread size is for the table lock handle? Mine is missing the ball end.

Had to buy:

spindle and chuck (ended up with a whole assembly) 33 JT
3 handles for the hub (ended up with hub also)
entire depth stop assembly
return spring cap and knob (ended up with whole assembly)
VFD

Also getting a custom made 3 jt cartridge assembly from owwm for a super chuck.

So much for "I have all the parts" from the ad.

I can sell off some of the extras and maybe the big pulley guard to make some back. I have the cast iron front pulley guard to use, and honestly like the open back look. Should be ahead though after selling the Craftsman stuff.

I'll get some pics up of the current progress once the VFD is mounted. I still need to paint the motor and cast iron pulley guard though so it looks kind of funky.
