Hi all! Thanks to GJ member exmaxima1 I picked up an old Delta DP 220 drill press for $20 a few months ago.

It sat there until I could get the garage renovation done enough to work in there again.

So I started tearing it apart last night, mentally preparing myself to fight fasteners that hadn't been touched in twenty, thirty, forty winters or more, and expecting a lot of swearing and possibly some blood. But thanks to what seems like the previous owners' care (and a whole lotta Kroil) I didn't fight a single one. I was amazed.

Anyways, I did have a few questions. There was no serial number tag on it, and I couldn't find any rivets or holes where the tag would have been. I don't know if I could even use the motor to date it; did vintage Deltas use Dayton motors? I'll admit I don't know a whole lot about vintage Deltas or vintage drill presses at all for that matter. Do any experts here have an idea of the date?

Also, the work surface is from a Delta DP 204, and has some damage on it. Where could I go to get a replacement DP220 work surface? For now, I could certainly use it, but would like to get something free of damage since I'm going to be fixing her up anyways.

And now, for what I'm sure you all clicked here for:

Sorry for the low quality pictures that only start after it's already taken apart. I think the beer on the work bench explains that.

Sorry I can't really answer your questions but I am really excited to see this restoration.

I give you an A+ for beer selection.

Well, small update. I did a bit of research and apparently the DPxxx numbers on the cast parts are just part numbers? I found two more: DP 211 on the base, and DP 280 on the front belt cover. Anyone out there that can maybe help me narrow down the date?

I realize this thread is old , but I have this type of drill press and I'm looking for a chuck for it . My spindle has 1/2 - 20 left hand threads on the end for the chuck to screw onto . Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance .

I was going to say late 50 and I think I am right. The last 2 numbers on the moter model is 59. That should be the year of the motor. I have had a bunch of these thorough the years. Nice score. Well worth restoring.

The Dayton motor may be that age, but it's not the original motor. That Delta drill press is from the 1930s.
