I got this drill press free when I bought an old Craftsman scroll saw and sander. I am in the process of taking it apart to clean, and possible restore. Can anyone tell me how to get the pinion shaft out without messing anything up? Should I just leave it in? I also need to know how to get the top pulley off. The three set screws on the under side are missing, and I don't know if I should pry, pull, etc. to get it off. Thanks. I'm sure I'll have more questions.

Gotcha! Sometimes I can be a little slow on the uptake. Where did your grandparents live in Texas?

Waco and Marshal are two that I can remember right off. There was also a city that was sort of famous for its mineral water spring. We used to take small glass jars to the fountain downtown and leave them in the water. When we came back hours later, the glass would be many different colors. Pretty cool. I'll have to look it up when I get time.

Nice little home shop DP; infinitely better made than a similar size Chicom. They're sometimes seen around here on craigslist, selling for $50-75, depending upon condition, motor and switch.

I'm happy with it for free. I already have a Craftsman floor model, so this will come in handy. I just have to figure out how to get the top pulley and pinion out without the spring going wild. Here's what I bought. They gave me the drill press.

Your welcome Zeeman! Good ole Heart Of Texas with a lot of history. The railroads drove a huge part of it.

Thanks for the kind words! Pic taken right after a frame-off resto of a 1957 BMW Isetta. Sold it in 2006 to a guy in Milwaukee. Last I heard it was still up there.

Be sure to post plenty of pix of that DP as you make progress on it. Wish I could find one of those.

Txlonghorn: OWWM helped with all sorts of info on vintage drill presses. It's gotten to be a sort of hobby of mine thanks to GJ'ers having a tendency to make people aware that they need something they never paid any attention to in the first place. Not complaining either.

I've really come to appreciate old USA iron. Got a 1956-7 CMan 100 floor model, circa 1950'ish Duro Metal Products 3083 benchtop and I'm putting the wraps on a 1941 Dunlap benchtop that was given to me as a basket case.

I hope that is what you were asking about.

PS: Hook 'em! I'm ready to see Tom Herman and the Horns kick some gluteus maximus this year.

87, It is looking much better. I have not fixed the Arc-O-Shame, or made a new feed handle yet. I also have to connect the power cord and maybe put a switch on it. Otherwise, it's finished. I'll go take some pictures and post them today.
