Picked up this jointer recently at an estate sale. Don't have a jointer so I figured it was something to mess with and give it a whirl. Reviews aren't the hottest on this benchtop model but it didn't cost me much. Figuring whomever had it first would've worked out any bugs. My question is, it didn't come with the guard that goes over the top spinning head, so other than just not sticking my fingers in it, anything else I need to be aware of? I tried looking online and it seems that part is discontinued and no place had it for sale that I could buy.

Just keep checking ebay. It took a long time until a part for my old jointer cane up. People find old power tools and part them out. I have seen pictures of home made guards. If it is anything like most jointers, it is a hex post and a plate

It is on ebay right now from Sears Parts Direct for $28.63 plus shipping I believe the part number is N030463. It is actually the whole assembly with guard, spring and mounting bracket. Make no mistake, that blade can chop you up really bad. Use pusher blocks to feed.
