Delta Mitre Saws

I went to some pawn shops today on my way home from work and came across two Delta Mitre saws which were priced well below any of the Craftsman, Dewalt, Hitachi ones.

The first one is a model 36-225. It looked lightly used purely based on viewing, but I would get them to start it up before I purchased it. they had a tag of $69 for it.

The other one was a 36-075. this was a little more used, but still in decent looking condition. This one was listed at $65.

What would be a reasonable price for either of these to eventually come to agreement with at the Pawn Shop?

I would have to say my experience wasnt the best. At one of them I asked how much on a 24" Rigid pipe wrench and was told $20, when I offered $10 as a counter, the guy proceeded to just go online and tell me he should charge me more based on internet pricing of new ones. I left the store.

Back on topic of the saws, what do you think is a fair offer?

I had a Delta miter saw for years, and I was happy with it. I have no idea what the model was, but it was a 12" blade.
It's still doing duty for my nephew as I gave it to him when I found a Milwaukee deal too good to pass up.
I don't know anything on the pricing. Pawn shops are weird to deal with.

I have a 20+ year old Delta 34-080 miter saw that rocks. I don't know about the newer ones.

I have the exact same saw as Kurt pictured above.

I picked it up on craigslist for next to nothing (less than $50, IIRC). It's built like a tank and works great. Despite it's age, it seems to be plenty accurate for most of the work I do. If I was working on really nice crown molding or if I needed a saw with a sliding feature, I might want something a little better. For the kind of work I generally do around the house, it's great.

I have a Delta 36-235, 12" blade (non sliding) compound miter saw) and I'm liking it.

Depending on condition (and this include hearing it run, If the gears are screaming, Walk away...) and size of blade, 50-60 bucks doesn't sound too bad, (if it's 12")...

If the operator of the shop is going on line and basing his prices on that, point out you can buy it on line for that, so unless he wants to make a deal, that's where you are going. Does he want a sale of not?

I've got a Delta. I don't know the model but that twin laser beam feature is worth its weight in gold. My only gripe is the output for dust collection is ~1-3/4" OD which makes connection an odd size. Other than that, great.

I have a Delta 10" compound miter that is 16+ years old. It has been used, loaned out, and dragged aound to various jobs. It has been a good one. It recently started sounding like the bearings may going South. I would offer the Pawnshop $50 and take it from there. JMHO.

It depends on model #, size and condition. Offer him $50 and maybe go up to $60. How many amps is the motor? Bigger is better! If it's a 12", you can't go wrong. Does the blade need replacement? Is it a factory blade or replacement (such as Freud)? As stated, any bizarre noises when you run it? These are all factors in the negotiating process. Delta is a quality unit. Actually $69 doesn't sound half bad.

I picked up this 12" Delta #36-235 two years ago for $100 off of CL. It came with the Freud blade. Like a hot knife through butter! I love this thing!

I used to own a 10" Delta compound miter saw bought new more than a decade ago (Model 36-220) that was built like a tank.

Was stolen out of my neighbors garage and I never recouped the cost nor any insurance so I still keep an eye out for them.

The older 10" models tend to go in the $50 to $75 range on CL I have found. The newer sliding units more, but keep in mind that since Delta had been sold and is now seen mainly a mid line Asian made tool, thus they are not very sought after by pros or heavy users if of the newer type.

If real new Delta, I persoanlly would pass and look for a DeWalt or better made brand. If the old tank style Delta, it may not have the bells and whistles, but it is a true pro-grade tool that will last decades.

Just my opinion.
