Yes, but you will need to provide a little more information. :dunno: A picture would help immensely.

And 15" size too.

A picture is absolutely necessary, or a lot more of a description.

For most of 1956, they offered 3 sizes--11", 14" and 17"--totaling 42 separate model numbers, and in very late 1956, for the 1957 model year, they introduced 16 models in 15" size, and 12 models in 20" size, some of which may have 1956 serial numbers.

The model number on the old drill presses is not extremely useful as it is on the newer machines. The same head could be on a few different table/column/spindle combinations.

Yours is either a 15-007 or 15-008 depending on which pulley set it has on it. That should be a 0-1/2" chuck, not 5/8". Are you sure it is a 5/8" chuck? I don't think I have ever seen a collar chuck with 5/8" cap before. :dunno:

I'm going to assume that this DP runs off a V-belt, rather than a flat belt.

If you have the old belt, take it to NAPA or any auto parts store for them to match it up. If you don't have the old belt, try taking an extension cord and wrap it around the pulleys, keep it taught. Put a mark where it overlaps, and measure. That should be the size belt you need.

Thank you for the response..I have actually ordered one from Grainger, will see how it turns out! They had a cross reference # ? $11.00 plus shipping.Certainly appreciate the link to the specs on the Delta site..

Why so much anguish over a simple V-belt? Delta Rockwell DPs just use standard belts. My hardware store three blocks away has them. The NAPA store has them. Four bearing supply houses here have several choices, including notched V-belts. Take your old one with you and they'll match it up.

Delta Rockwell DrillPress opinions please

Hi guys..

I currently use my little Delta DP200 (bought used 2 years ago) almost daily to bore up to 9mm holes in mild steel for my little ATV fab business. I run the press at the slowest speed.

Its gotten to the point where even at the lowest speed 450 rpms, the runout is so bad the holes are oblong even with various bits......you can shake the shaft back and forth and feel the slop.
FWIW, I replaced the chuck some time back with a nice keyless Jacobs chuck but its time to look for a DP replacement..

I could try to replace the bearings but....

Would you take a moment and give your thoughts on these 2 presses I found on Craigslist about 5 minutes from the house...
thanks very much..

I'd prefer a floor mounted model, but either way is ok...

thanks as always...walt

Vintage Rockwell bench (Oh is there supposed to be a belt cover on this model?)

Craftsman floor mounted ( the radial feature is nice but is no real use to me)

That would be the sensible option, IMHO. No matter what you buy, you have no exact idea of condition. You currently have a pillar drill which you know is in sound condition barring knacked bearings. Any other you look at could possibly need new bearings and more besides.

If you ask over on OWWM.org, someone there can probably guide you through bearing replacement, it's not that hard.

Can you pop the chuck off and see where the slop is coming from? Spindle to bearing fit, bearings themselves, quill to head casting fit? Just to make sure we are talking about the same machine the DP200 is a somewhat modern, off shore made bench top unit. Is that the one you have?

Re: Delta Rockwell DrillPress opinions please

Heres a pic of the little beast (DP200) as well as the parts breakdown..as I learn more about it ..it retailed new for about $120 at Lowes etc...

I can pull the chuck and see if I can try to isolate the slop...but
looks like #11 and #41 are the bearings....
checking for the bearings on line the 3 bearings (with Delta part numbers) are about $80

plus the time to cross them over to a non Delta bearing to save some $
and the time to replace them

Is the time/ $$ downtime worth it on this drill press? Yup it does the job, but does stall out if I hog it in heavy steel with a big bit. I have to do 9mm holes in stages...

What's the word from the collective...

Fix it - replace it...

walt

Hey Walt, glad to see you over here. That was me you spoke with yesterday about the Delta. If you are still interested, give me a call and I'd be happy to show you in person. BTW, I have a floor model coming up for restoration as well if that is more your need.

Oh yeah, that's the original belt guard for that model, the floor model is a full cover newer style.

I led you astray with my OWWM.org advice, that machine is too new and Asian, not supported there.
Good luck, Jim
