I have been bidding on drill presses in various government and surplus auctions for several years now, and last week, I finally won an auction for one.

I picked it up yesterday, and unloaded it this morning.

It has a 115/230v motor and a mag starter, too.

I cleaned up the top end a bit, and tested it out.

Everything works in the variable speed drive, spindle, chuck, etc.
I need to work on the table lift screw mechanism, as it is kind of rough/sticky.

Oh, and I paid $202.50 for it. Most of the ones I have missed out on went for more than twice that.

Congrats, that looks real nice especially for the price. Almost a shame that one isn't 3 phase.

For most people (including me), the fact that it ISN'T 3 phase is a huge plus.
I have seen plenty of 3-phase units come up in auctions and business sales, but wanted a single phase one.

In most cases I'd agree, but with the reeves drive, large T slot table and retained chuck it would be an ideal candidate for a mid range VFD with programmable reversing features. A wide speed range due to the mechanical/electrical couple, table to clamp anything and stout enough for power tapping.

They made a DC powered version of that for a few years.

Be gentle with the variable speed drive. It has a lot of parts and is expensive to fix.

which websites do you use to bud on? I’d like to try this but I **** at knowing where to find the auction sites.
