Hi Yah'll, got a ? for You's, I have a lean too that is attached to My shop, its falling apart, its got 2 layers of shingles that because of the pitch, almost flat are in rough shape. Does Anyone know the easy way of cutting back the shingles so that the proper shingle length overhangs on the shop and then I can go and sawzall the runners off My joists. I think that a 1/2" over the end of the ply sheeting is proper, sorry bout the dumb ???

Yeah, about a half inch is right. Was it added on after the shop or built during the shop? Probably the reason it's falling apart is the pitch is too shallow for shingles, it should have had rolled roofing and been hot mopped on. After you cut it back to 1/2", you might want to put a drip edge up under there. Typically you nail it down from the top before putting the first row of shingles on, but you could face nail it and caulk the nail heads.

Thanks 1320stang, it was added after the shop was built originally and Your absolutely wright about water not being able to move off it, rolled shingles should have been installed, oh well, so I'll cut 1/2" longer to leave an overhang, fascia/soffit then gutters, sounds like a plan.........peace.

The roofer told me it was my choice: one inch will stick out and stay hard, or up to 3 inches which will droop. Hard and stiff sounded better than soft and droopy to me :)
