Just finished my pour last month. Its been approx a month and I'd like to get it sealed before moving my stuff in. Not interested in epoxy or floor paint...just densifier/sealer to help sweeping and some liquid protection. 2000sq/ft coverage is what I need. Feedback on product and price for what people here have used would be appreciated.

Ashford Formula, the originator of densifiers. Cost for 5 gallons was about $150. The retailer said I could probably get by with ten gallons for my 2100 square foot shop floor. Luckily I had the foresight to bring home an extra five gallon can, which the retailer said I could bring back if I didnt open it. The concrete was a month old, the weather had been very dry, the application day was very dry and windy and 60 degrees. The stuff seemed to dry very fast in the windy conditions. We ended up using all three five gallon cans. We did not get it all squeeged off in a couple places, but like any surface coating, the excess that we left there will wear off soon enough.
We actually simply dumped it on, walking and dumping. another person broomed it around. We could have used a third person on the team, brooming. As soon as I got it all dumped on, I started brooming it around too. After about 20 minutes the surface suddenly got incredibly slick, even though we were ready for it, it caught us by surprise. At that point the directions instruct to spray on water and keep brooming/squeegying it around. When it gets slippery the second time, the process is complete and you are to broom/spray water/squeegy the remaining product off the edge of the slab. Its so easy to apply on new already cured concrete.

I purchased from a local retailer called Brock White. All they sell is everything related to concrete. I am not sure how big of an operation they are. You could yellow pages search for concrete finish product suppliers, or possibly construction supplies, concrete. The Ashford page appears to want you to fill in your name and stuff so they can write you back with the info. Here is the page with the form...

I am not sure how I found this page, but googled "ashford formula distributor florida" and got:

I suggest that you buy a small quantity and try it somewhere that will be covered up by cabinets or something later.

For some reason, I did not have good luck with a densifier/sealer. My power troweled concrete was 15 months old at the time, it was pressure washed, slightly etched, and scrubbed with a coarse buffer pad, could not get the densifier/sealer to have any effect. It might have been something I did, who knows. I bought enough for 2300 sq feet and still have it so I plan on trying it on the exterior work pads this spring.

Hey Legacy,

Do you have a densifier recommendation for 40 sq ft of concrete countertop? I was looking at your HD-36. I figure 1 gallon should be enough.

I used densifier on mine and quite happy with the results so far. It was quite a smooth finish to begin with and with the densifier the small amounts of grease, oil and brake dust I've dropped have cleaned up without a trace. I really didn't want a "finish" that would require maintenance down the road.

The only mistake I made was not removing the excess. I figured I'd let it dry on and it would provide extra protection but it is not a sealer and doesn't need to be there once it's done it's magic. Left a lot of white staining and was slippery the first couple times it got wet but quickly wore off where I've been walking and working.

EDIT: Forgot to say, I used Lithosil 3205L from Innovative Manufacturing. Got it from the local concrete supply wholesaler for about $200. 5 Gal did my whole 32x48' in two thick coats.

Chilliwack:
Glad you shared your experience with everyone. It is not a coating and leaving it on in a puddle form will cause issues with whiting. The whiting can be only be removed through abrasive sanding.

I assume I didn't actually have much "whiting" then. What I have is dried on product that has mostly worn off in two months. A lot came off when I swept it a couple times with a stiff broom. Where it's worn off there is little to no indication it was ever there.
