Dent repair advice

I got "got" in the parking lot and need to repair the small dent pictured. The lower damage is a gouge in the plastic bumper. How would you approach repairing the sheet metal dent?

Body shop? or you? Small but the same methods as larger repair. Straigten, fill, sand, prime paint.

Can you massage it from behind it with a PDR pick? I would think you could get most of it out.

Edit: Looks like it may be to low in the quarter panel.

The gouge looks to be "tied" into the frame, so PDR will not be helpful. Any dent, gouge, or abnormality that creases into the edge will have minimal results. Tougher fix than it appears as the lip is turned up along the panel.

The plastic, epoxy and touch up. Wipe w/ gasoline to clean, fill, light sand paint - should be good.


The top can be "minimalized" or go the whole nine yards. I would just fill, sand, touch it up myself (or not even F w/ it, LOL). To do it "right," the panel may very well have to be removed, I know it sounds absurd.........

#1 suggestion- do not bang the center of the dent. start at the outer areas and work inward. it only stretches the metal making for more work.

#2 most of the dent has "residual stress" at the side where the dent is deepest. As the area is reduced in side it will normally require less force to drive to the correct shape.

#3 depending on your objective- it should only require a tiny amount of filler or none.
If you use BONDO brand they have a new small kit perfect for this and sands really well. Cures out fast and spreads easily. Use a small body spreader and press firm smooth coats.. do not apply like a cake icing.

#4 buff out the bottom to see how much damage is done. Looks minimal from here.. good luck.

Advise from someone who should not be giving any when they do not know. NEVER clean with gas, the residue is a ***** to get off. As you tap the dent out the body line/edge will come back down as their is not that much stress on it. after you have gotten it out sand it down and apply the filler and sand smooth, primer and paint. Now here is where it is going to get tricky...are you going to do a blend or you going to shoot the whole panel? You need to check the color and see if it is base/clear or single stage, most likely it will base base/clear. If it is b/c do a blend on the white and clear the whole panel. the bumper sand it smooth and use SEM plastic bumper filler for the repair then prime and do the same for paint as the quarter panel. Or just get some touch up paint and cover the areas that the paint is gone and roll with it.

From the looks of the picture a good PDR guy should be able to get it out. The scratch to me looks like a paint transfer and should come off. It may be streched some but the area you shouldn't notice it. I have been doing PDR for 7 years now and it looks fixable but photos can be deceiving.

Looks like a mustang. I'd say just hit it with some touch-up paint and call it good. To fix it "right" isn't worth the trouble IMO

I hope you will listen to me. There are shops in many places called paintless dent repair. They use specialty tools that work the dents out when they are like that. Last one like that cost me about $100 - $125 depending on how long he worked. My first experience was with an Acura roof I dropped a Yakima rack on. I had couple 2x4s dropped on the hood once from about 3 feet that looked worse than that and when he was done one could not tell where it had been. DO NOT TRY to fix it yourself. Google "Paintless Dent Repair" or go visit some of the Acura, Porsche and Lexus dealers in your area and ask them who does their Paintless Dent Repair.

I don't think paintless dent repair will work when there's paint missing. Chaz not only needs to eliminate the dent but he needs paint for that to disappear.

Plus, I don't think paintless dent repair will work on gouges on plastic bumpers, either.

The reason to try PDR methods in this case is to prevent the use of overuse of filler as a "fix" when it's not.

I'm currently fascinated with shrinking disc methods. That one is going to benefit from some pressure from the back side though.
